Metformin ER

I think I have a faint memory about why I had to stop the Metformin when my PCP gave it to me for weight loss (I think) two+ years ago.

I am experiencing stomach aches, nausea, feeling of weakness, flatulence, constipation, and general fatigue.

What say you about all this from those you either take it, have taken it, or have much needed information?

I'm going to give it another 3-4 days to see what happens. I have the Glucopaghe XR, and will probably try it before I call my doctor. May call the PA the beginning of the week anyway. I sure feel miserable.

I buy the small bottles of water- I think they are about 8 oz. each and I am allowed to keep a small refridgerator in my classroom so that helps. I can't drink carbonated drinks in front of the students (unless it is an emergency) but I can drink all the water I want to. The bathroom is a big problem in my line of work- they say you have to have an iron bladder to be a teacher b/c you can only pee on schedule. In my case that is before 7 am, at 10am, 11:40 am and anytime after 2 pm! The hardest part for me is getting back on that schedule in the fall after being 'free' all summer. Right now the hardest part is the 'number 2' and the diarrhea from these meds. Thank the lord I have an understanding principal and teacher in the next room who can watch two rooms while straddling two doorways! It is also a LONG way to a bathroom! I should say a CLEAN adult only bathroom! I did tell my principal when I was diagnosed as Diabetic and she has been very understanding. I told her I may need to eat or drink in front of the kids, and she said that was fine (within reason- only 'healthy' foods such as crackers and water). I know there are lots of people out there who can't tell their employer so I am thankful for that. I also have told the kids a little about Diabetes, that sometimes I might not feel good, etc. I have given them a few non-scary directions, such as if I look like I am sick and they don't know what to do, they are to go to the teacher next door and tell her or another adult.

I actually fainted in my neighbor's classroom about 15 years ago (long before diabetes) after giving blood that day. Now I know to stay put and send a kid for help- those concrete floors are HARD! LOL

Michele~

Thanks for the hopeful message. My stomach feels like someone punched me! That's only on 500mg. Was going to call the PA today, but got waylaid.

Thought if I had nails put on that would cheer me up. Am going to a dinner Monday evening, and the speaker is discussing some facet of the treatment of depression.

Need a few more CEU's for my licensure the end of June. Wanted to wear a pretty ring.

Anyway was thinking about it and decided against it. What if they rough up my fingers too much with the fills and I end up with an infection! So, a self-manicure Sunday, probably with tools I know are disinfected.

Here's hoping the sense of malaise will go away. Am tired of my stomach aching.

You are taking the meds AFTER you eat right? I know the aching feeling, sometimes it is just gas, but it seems to press on other organs and make my stomach hurt like an ulcer. I am going to keep taking it though, b/c it has given me the lowest bs numbers ever. My morning average is down to 110, and I have had morning readings as low as 80. My two hour after dinner stays between 100-140. Hang in there! I am at around day 30, and I still have the aches. It seems to help if I eat a few peanut butter crackers if it has been a couple of hours since I last ate. Good luck! MH

I'm taking it at dinner time, primarily after a bite or two.

Still have gas, but it's not as bad. Still have a sense of bloating,

but that, too, has lessened.

Thanks for helping me along.
