Finally got my meter :)

She gave me two so I'd have one for home and one for school (I'm a teacher).  It's an Ascensia Contour.   I'm testing twice a day and I need to stay below 140.

My insurance gave me 100 lancets for $5.  I wonder what will happen with the strips (gulp).  Will let you know.

Diet's going well.  She suggested I take a carb/protein snack before exercising so I don't crash afterwards, like I have a couple times.

So what do you think?  I thought the 140 seemed high, but what do I know.

I think you got good advise and it is wonderful that they gave you two meters. My insurance doesn't pay for lancets and so I think that is wonderful that your's does. I have to pay $25 for about 3 months worth of strips so I hope your insurance company comes through on this also.

I also agree with the protein and carbohydrate before exercising and have been told that you need to eat this 15-30 minutes before you start. Also don't forget to take some fluids with you. If you are able to meet the goal of 140 two hours after eating you will be doing wonderfully well. This would mean that your fasting blood sugar would be in the 110 range.

You are learning quickly and soon you will be an old pro like the rest of us.

Well, glad you got the meter(s). Fasting should be below 110 and 2 hrs after eating your BS should be below 140. Sounds like you've got a handle on it so far.

$5.00 for the 100 lancets is pretty good. Do you have a mail plan? I'd suggest getting 3 month's. Most insurance companies charge 2 month's co-pay for 3 month's supply.

Keep us informed, ok? Good luck!!!

Well, apparently I was a bad girl yesterday--too much Easter candy.

I think that Walgreen's carries the Ascencia Contour strips and lancets. This isn't one that uses a cylinder, is it? Anyway, try Walgreen.

Great on the strips. That's cheaper than for me!

As far as the evening and morning numbers. How high are they? I was running in the high 100's in the mornings when I first started trying to manage this thing. With the careful care of our wonderful CL's and their suggestions, I stopped obsessing (ya, right) about it.

MaryFrances expressed concerns about my medication. I'm still on 8mg of Amaryl before bedtime. Am on 500mg of metformin-ER (generic glucophage-xr) at dinner time. Still think my body doesn't like the metformin-ER. Don't feel very well. Still haven't called my PA to tell her. Want to give it another week before I call.

My numbers are hitting right where they should provided I behave myself and eat correctly.

Let me rephrase that...provided I eat. Have to eat dinner because of the meds. It's hit and miss for breakfast. I usually have lunch.

I think that things will straighten out for you as well. Just hang in there.

I've only been doing this for 3 days, but before bedtime on day 1 it was 236.
