I have a couple of questions that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have been a type 2 diabetic for a little over 2 years and my doctor and I are having a hard time regulating my blood sugar. I was doing really well the last couple of weeks and then this week....My sugars have skyrocketed for no apparent reason. I am currently taking 38 units of Lantus and 1,000 mg of Glucophage in the morning and evening. Has anyone had any problems with the Lantus not working? My sugar reading before lunch was 457 and my morning fast was 303. It is almost like my body did not even acknowledge the insulin. I spoke with my doctor and she wants me to increase the insulin to 41 units. I am hoping that will help. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I dont know how true this is but i thought i would pass it along to you. I just got the reader digest beat diabetes magazine and it has a couple of tips about getting your levels down.It says that half a tsp of Aloe Vera could drop your blood sugar more tha 100 points. It also had a part about a new med that mimics the pancreas and that its a new ultra long acting insulin that holds levels steady over the long haul.My husband has diabetes and he to has very high reading and is also on insulin. They have a book for sale also stopping Diabetes in its tracks that i sent off for. I would think that if readers Digest put there name on it than there must be some truth to this, plus i will try anything for his levels to drop.I hope some of this helps

Let me see if I can explain to you what is going on. If you have been reading the posts for the past two months you will know that I am on Lantus also. Lantus is a basal insulin. It has a small peak just after you take the injection and then it is maintained in the body as a steady amount until the drug is gone and the next injection is given. It does not respond to huge peaks in your blood sugar from eating.

The metformin or glucophage is given to break down the insulin resistance. By breaking down the insulin resistance you are better able to use the insulin that you are getting via the injection and the insulin that your pancreas is producing. You are on the maximum doseage of the metformin.

Now what do I think is happening. While I am not a physician and therefore can't diagnose or
