See... life always comes to bite me in the backside!

Was so happy that I was consistently losing 1 to 1.4 # weekly since starting the Amaryl. Well, now I'm gaining back some of what I've lost. Think it's the Metformin.

Started a new thread because I have a different question, sort of. What in the heck is happening to me? What do y'all think?

Have a call in to the PA for tomorrow (Friday). If I'm lucky, she'll call me back.

Seems strange that with a new medicine (Glucophage-XR/Metformin-ER) that they'd want to see me after a month or 6 weeks on it. Nope...next appt. is in July!

p.s. my numbers have dropped significantly...yipee, but not at the price of gaining back 5# in a month!

Kathi,

Weight gain with glucophage (metformin) isn't the usual response. Metformin is the only diabetic med which encourages weight loss. There is weight gain with amaryl with 8-30 pounds being normal. Probably what is happening is as you get your blood sugar under tighter control you are gaining weight because you don't need as much food as before. Your body is trying to get itself back in balance and you are taking in too many calories. try cutting back a little on your food and increase your exercises. Do remember if you are exercising that muscle weighs more than fat and so as you gain muscles you can gain weight.

Hope it isn't too hot in your area.

I don't know what's up. Talked to my PA and she wasn't really a lot of help. Oh well, life goes on! Numbers are fairly good. Screwed up last night and ate too many iced bars (Blue Bunny Freedom). My numbers before bed were almost 200, but this am they were back sort of to just over 120.

I think you're absolutely correct. I am taking in too many calories although the carb count is within my limits (except for last night!)

I expect some shifts in my weight as I increase my physical activity. Was going to go to the Y last Wednesday, but had diarrhea again. Didn't want to have to run to the bathroom all the time. So, have to reschedule the weight training instruction.

Yep, it's going to be in the mid 90's this weekend into the end of next week. I want to plant some flowers. Will have to do it early in the morning. Wish the wind would die down a little. Don't like the soil blowing in my face. Also need to spray my weeds. Can't have that blowing in my face, for sure!

As always, thanks for your input. Have a good weekend.

Yep, it's

:-)

Hi I have been a type two for over 4 years they started me on glucophage/metformin-er way back when i lost a lot at first then slowly gained a little bit back. however i had to be tested every three months because of the side effects it can have on your liver and kidneys. So be prepared to see the dr's a lot. also helps to find a dr you like makes visits enjoyable.

They say glucophage causes weight loss, but I haven't lost any either! Try increasing your fiber too, I have ate more salads, veggies, etc. to try to keep the diarrhea away. It is so hard to deal with the side effects of this sometimes! Michele H.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to start the actual glucophage-XR in a couple of days. Want to see if the actual brand name works better.
