Insulin resistance..metformin

So..I see my dr on May 7th. He wants too see how the Xenical is working out. I can tell you right now..it's hasn't done a thing. I am suppose to be losing 2 lbs a week. So by the 7th..I should have lost 10 lbs...nope. I'm telling you..it's this resistance thing. Never before in my life has losing weight bben any sort of problem. One year after having my 3rd child I was back in a bikini. This is nuts! So I'm thinking of asking the dr about trying metformin. Now,,first of all..it's not a vanity thing. LOL.My numbers these last two weeks have been higher then before. I think my lowest number 2 hrs after dinner was 137. It took 5 hrs for my number to come down to a 139 after eating crackers the other day. At two hrs my number was 198. Crackers! ARrrrrrrrrr. As you all are aware my dr isn't helping much and the wait for a specialist is 3 months. I'm wondering if I shouldn't try to get my hands on this medication. I'd like to know more about it and your opinions on weather or not you think this would be good for me based on what you know ( about the med) and have tried. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the encouragement! Yep, you got my number! Blue Bunny is good for me...
Albertson's had a sale on the yogurt until today. Just saw it Monday when I went for milk. Bought enough for a couple of weeks for 50 cents a piece. Good price and low in carbs! The iced bars were discounted 20 cents...can I stand it?
Have an orthopedic appt in two weeks about my hip and knee. I sure can understand how extra weight could cause problems with arthritis. I'm slowly losing, and am glad that I have been making some progress. The Glucophage doesn't seem to be helping me lose weight, but my numbers are such that I have to watch just before bed to be sure they
aren't too low.
Again, thanks for the input.
Like your kitty. Do you have any cats?

I have some of the Dannon 3 carb yogurt in my fridge. It's ok, and just the trick if you only want just a bit to eat.
At the expo I had just had my BG tested at a meter display. (Can't remember who it was, but they gave me a blue butterfly that had a battery so it would light.)
It couldn't have worked out better; I'd eaten at 9AM on the way to the expo, so I had them test me at 11AM. I think the walking around and around rather than lowering it, for some reason made the BG higher. It was sort of hot and stuffy in the exhibit hall.
Oh, yeh, I was talking about Blue Bunny. Drank half my bottle of water, too. I had 1 bar which is 1 carb exchange for me (13 regular carbs) about an 1.5 hour after the blood draw (was feeling kind of puny) in the palm of my hand. That was strange! Nice, though, they used disposable lancets and the people were in fresh gloves for each person. Not all the meter companies gloved. I'm a little picky about that because of ARC and AIDS.
Go to www.bluebunny.com and they'll list the stores that carry it in your area. Someone said that Walmart SuperStores carry it. I don't know because there isn't one near me. I go to either Albertson's or Fry's so far. Haven't ventured out yet to investagate other stores.
The sample meal replacement drink they gave us at the expo was Glucerna and there was a little snack bar in the package, too. It says it's about 1/3 the size of a regular bar, but they give the nutritional info for a full bar. Both are meant to be meal replacements. Can't remember the liquids I've tried, but they all tasted like chalk. Maybe they've improved them in the last few years. I lost quite a bit prior to my marriage by having a Carnation Breakfast for breakfast with a piece of toast, and then one at lunch along. I had a goal in mind, so guess I didn't mind the taste.
Do you find that outside temperatures (highs) make a difference in your BG results?
This is all so new to me. I don't know what's happening to my body.
Ha ha ha ha
Now a days everybody is supposed to wear gloves. If they used disposable lancets, you are actually more danger to them than they are to you. I believe the meter you tested was by Life Scan. I think their symbol is a blue butterfly. The bar that I carry in my purse to treat my hypoglycemia is glucerna. The snack size is hard to find around here. Everyone seems to have switched
Good luck!

The wait for the endo is 12 months. I did however find out today that my app with the internist is June 28th. I see the internist first cause the wait for an endo is so long. I got a script today for metformin. I take 250, 2x a day. I hope this will help me lose weight. The dr said it will. You mentioned watching carbs. Is that because of the metformin or because of the diabetes?
I don't understand. Please explain. Thanks.
Hey Peggy,
I am so glad to see you here! Welcome back.
For those who don't know Peggy on the boards, Peggy was here when I came on the boards the first time and she is the only person on the boards that I have ever physically seen! so we have been through a lot around here and I am very glad to see her posting again. Peggy came to the town that I live in and we went to have coffee. We instantly knew who the other was when we walked into the restaurant without ever having seen each other!
So I a megahappy to see Peggy here!
