Depo shot and whens best to test

So I was reading up on drugs used for insulin resistance. One of the sites mentioned testing before you eat. It said if your before meal numbers are higher then 130..then whatever drug it was might be good for you. I have never heard of testing before you eat. Is this to check your numbers when your hungry? Should you be spacing meals when you test like this? I don't understand the point of testing then. And what about testing one hour after? My dr asked me if I ever did this. I didn't...always 2 or more...but he said it would be interesting too see my numbers an hr after. Why I don't know.
Now one of the sites mentioned too about birth control having an affect on BG. Anybody here know the effects of the Depo Prevera shot? I had one back in November. I hated it...and never got another one. However, it was shortly after this shot I started having troubles with the hypoglycemia. The gyno said there was no way the 2 were related. Can anybody argue with this?
So glad this board is back up.
I missed you guys yesterday.

You should be testing before meals as this is an accurate measurement of your blood sugar over time and it is fasting. It is a waste of time for a diabetic to test 1 hour after meals but perhaps useful for a hypoglycemic to test. The more accurate test is the two hour test when your blood sugar should have returned to a normal level of under 140.
I can't speculate on what drug advertisement that you saw. All hormones effect your blood sugar and usually by raising it. So I wouldn't be surprised that initially your blood sugar increased with the Depo. I haven't heard of it causing hypoglycemia. and your GYN doc should know.
I was so fearful when I tried to sign on to the boards today. I spent the entire month of January not being able to post anything so I hope everything is fixed again. It seemed so strange last night not to log on. I have been the cl-for six years I believe and this has become such a part of my everyday life that when I can't get on I feel real withdrawal symptoms! and you wonder why I have a hard time finding time for exercise! Anyway I am glad it looks like everything is fixed.
Have a great day,
Mary Frances
