Got "sick" this weekend. #'s are wacky

OK, I'll be the first to say that I've never considered a cold a valid reason of saying you're "sick", but with this being my first cold since being diagnosed...I'm starting to change my opinion on that not being "sick" thought! I woke up Friday and my fasting was 136, which is extremely high for me. I attributed it to stress because the school Fun Fair was that night, and I'd been working for 9 months on it. The Fun Fair went well, came home and my throat was really sore and hurt to swallow. Then I ate and got dizzy so laid on the couch awhile. Throat got worse, nose started running, started sneezing. I thought now that this was pay back for not watching myself as closely as maybe I should have during the day. Woke up the next day to a fasting of 165 and a fever and a cough was added to everything else. This "cold" is kicking my butt, that's for sure! I've seen what a little cold virus can do to one's numbers because mine have been all over the place. This morning was 119, which is still high for me, but much better than the 165 I saw yesterday.

Wishing there were a magic cure for colds so I could taste and smell again! Ugh...

Sorry to hear your sick Angie. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think your getting your butt kicked by a cold. I think it's getting kicked by the flu. If you have a fever...then it's a flu. You don't get fevers from a cold. Thought it might make you feel better knowing you weren't being beating by a silly little cold. :-)

Hope you feel better soon

The only nice thing about getting one of these rhino viruses is that when you start to get over the thing you know it because your numbers come back towards normal even before you begin to feel better. Sorry you got sick and I hope you feel better real soon. Thankfully we can't pass these things to each other over the internet.

I was messing with the signature the other day...looks like the "ing" didn't get underlined in the link. I've fixed it now, hopefully!

Thanks for the well wishes!

Hi Sue! I went to the chiropractor today and he looked at me and knew something was up with me. My son told him "she's not sick, she has a cold"..and he told her that with diabetes, even a cold makes you "sick." He agreed that it's the flu. Didn't have an appetite for dinner tonight, but ate something so I could try to get my numbers back to normal. Thanks!

Hi Mary Frances..thank you! Yep, I'm glad we can't pass it on thru the keyboard...but if that meant it would leave me, I'm sure I could find someone to give it to! I'll keep watching the numbers, but with still having a fever, I'm not expecting a great number later!

The "sickies" must have been going around. Told you about my terrific walk. Well, am still suffering hip and leg pain from it. My allergies have been acting up for about two weeks. Thank goodness my nose has been running otherwise I'd have a sinus infection to boot!

My numbers have been out of wack, too. Hopefully both of us will settle down quickly.

Get better soon!

;-)

An update...

I called my doctor today because I still wasn't feeling better and my sugars were way too high for the 6th day. She confirmed that I had some sort of bacterial virus and gave me a Rx for an antibiotic to take for 20 days. I don't think I've ever taken one for longer than 2 weeks!

Take care everyone - stay clear of the "bugs" that are going around!
