Saw my endo yesterday, things appear to be going well, I get a 6-month reprieve as opposed to 4 months (call if there's a problem) but what I want to post here is the following:

My Endo is out of St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica and has knowledge of many studies for diabetics, both type 1 and type 2.  There are several going on right now, including one for type 1s with neuropathy.  If anyone is interested in participating in any of the studies, or would like more information, please email me through my profile and I will give you the information.  I don't want this to look like a solicitation, so I don't want to post any of the office info here.

They were both pleased to learn about the board and Shannon said she was going to come and take a look.   And Mary Frances, my doctor was interested about the trials you're in right now.

How can anybody be enlightened, truth is after all so poorly lit.

Hi Gabby,

The insulin trial that I am in is called GOT which mean Glycemia Optimization Treatment Study. It is using Lantus to get to a treatment goal. There are 5 arms to the study and thankfully I am in the arm with the goal for treatment being an average blood sugar of 120. The FDA has not ever accepted the treatment algorithm for treating type 2's with Lantus and this study will determine the correct dosing. It is accepted that the Lantus will work because of the experience using it to treat type 1 diabetics.

I have had some real difficulties with the Lantus and some real success. My A1C has dropped to 6.6 from 7.8 since I started the trial. But I have had some significant hypoglycemia events including an unexplained 52 last week. They have decreased the amount of oral meds that I am on. I am on 16 units now and probably there won't be much increase in the future as my average blood sugar is now 122.

I am finally going to see the dietitian again for

Glad to hear how you're doing. Have been wondering as you haven't posted much about it since the initial couple. Hope you continue to feel fine. Sent an angel to sit on your shoulder for a while.
