So..I told him what's been going on. Brought in my meter so he could scroll through it and see the numbers for himself. He apologized for not taking a more aggressive approach, said he didn't realize the numbers had gotten that bad. I see the specialist on June 28th but my dr is hoping to have my Bg under control before that. I got a script for Metformin and I need to go in 2 weeks to get a fasting BG done and then back to see him. He says I need a medic alert braclet and I have to start checking my numbers again regular to make sure I'm not going too low. The good news is a months supply of this drug is only $11.00..YA! A far cry from the $150.00 I was paying for Xenical. He says I will lose weight for sure with the metformin as well which will help with the numbers. The dose is 500 ml..but he says too break in half and take 250 2x a day. Does this sound right to you guys? Anyways..it seems silly to be happy that I am a diabetic..lol...but in all honesty I'm glad I know what's wrong with me and can now do something to make myself feel better. I want to be healthy but to be that, I first need to know why I am not. So...I guess I am here to stay.

Thanks. That's exactly how I feel. It's as if I have control once again of my life. It's funny too cause I had one dosage of the metformin with my dinner tonight and I think I feel better. LOL I'm cured! LOL..I do feel freed though. I cried too, tears of relief. I'm gonna live a long happy life after all.

Hi

If the metformin/glucophage is regular then it is ok to split it but if it is xr, then you can't because it is time released. 500mg is the lowest dosage. I hope it helps you. It didn't help me lose weight (98lbs to date) weight watchers helped me do that. Good luck:)

Well, punkin', glad you found out what was up. Have been on Metformin for over a month now and haven't lost anything. Don't forget that each person is different. I'm not taking the Glucophage-XR. Long story...has to do with my dumb insurance company!

Anyway, good luck with regulating yourself. Get the medalert bracelet for sure. I gather Diabetes II, huh? Get the DIABETES II, THE FIRST YEAR, if you get a chance. Good sites:

www.joslin.com and www.diabetes.org for a start.

Hang in with us. We're here for you whenever you need...questions, complaints or successes, whatever.
