Hi I am Janice and 41 years old,we live in Alberta,Canada...anyways last week at a regular eye exam my doc said"do you have diabetes"that shocked me..anyways he said my eyes changed so much in 2 years he has never seen such a change....so I made a doc appt and got blood work today and should have results tomorrow or next day...something is telling me I am going to get my results back saying I do have it...I get dizzy quite a lot and am tired and my eyes do change a lot........I am over weight which is not good I know that and this might be a real wake up call to change my life style and I am ready to do that.....I just wondered what some of your symptoms were if any?I might be a real regular here.......

Janice,

Let's wait and see what your lab work says. We can keep our fingers crossed that you will be happily surprised and not be diabetic. Right now we have other Candanians on the board and so if you are diagnosed diabetic you will have fellow countrywomen to commiserate with. In the lower 48 we use a totally different numbering system than the rest of the world. It takes a little getting used to but we all learn to translate the numbers so that all of us can understand what is happening.

I will be anxious to read your results.

I'm 25 and just had a similar experience. My eye doctor actually found that I had high pressure (29 left and 30 right) and some very minor retinal bleeding. He more or less ordered me to get tested. I'm still waiting on most of my results, but my finger prick test was enough for a diagnosis - 240 FASTING.

He basically said at my age and with my risk factors (ONLY a family history) and with NO symptoms, if my eye doctor hadn't caught it, it could have been YEARS before anyone would have thought to test.

Good luck.. I do hope its different for you.

Please tune in later for a new signature. :)
