Doctor! LOL. You are totally awesome...anyone ever told you that? Cause you are.

Thanks so much for your info and concern. You make me feel so understood here.

As for my numbers while sick (which BTW I still am) have been very low. The highest I have seen it is 96. But for the most part it has been between 60 and 80. I stopped taking the Metformin 2 days ago cause I was getting concerned about the lows. Even after meals is low. I had a can of Coke yesterday. My number only got up to 94. I haven't had a can of Coke in ages. It was kinda yucky...too sweet.

Also, I have lost no weight. Which I find very strange. I would say I have cut my calories in half since starting the Metformin. Not because I'm counting calories but because I have no appetite. It takes very little food to fill me up and I have no cravings for sweets or anything. I snack cause I should, not because I'm hungry. My food choices are way better now cause sweets and fast acting carbs don't appeal to me. Also, I realize my job may not be enough exercise, but, I'm still moving and on the go all day long. I started this job the same week I started taking the Metformin. So you would think that the combination of better food choices, smaller portions, Metformin and increased physical activity I'd have at least lost 1 pound. Months ago I thought I'd be happy if I could lose 20 lbs. Then I thought it would be great to lose 15...then 10....then 5,...now I'm thinking 2 would be super. I'm completely lost. Any ideas as to why I still cannot lose weight???? It makes no sense.

Thanks again for everything

Sue,

Thank you for the kind words! :-)

It takes a reduction of about 3500 calories to lose a pound a week. Now that can come through reduced food intake and increased physical activitiy. I was really amazed when I started eating a diabetic meal plan because I was suddenly able to lose weight easily. I have seen this happen a number of times. So I recommend that all diabetics see a dietitian who specializes in diabetes for meal planning help. Sometimes it something so simple as rearranging when you eat what.

I hope you are feeling better soon and I am really glad that your blood sugar hasn't gone sky high.

Sometimes when I am in a drug study, they like to do glucose tolerance tests and they usually use Tang. I can't beleive how sweet that stuff is and how I used to drink it! After a while you forget how sweet things are!

Cheers,

Mary Frances
