Hi. I think I've had diabetes (type 2) for about 2 months, but my doctor keeps changing

her mind..... First she told me I was borderline diabetic, then I was diabetic and now I'm

sugar intolerant. Help? I'm now confused. My blood sugar is usually around 8.4-10.6 de-

pending on what I eat. I've been acting like I am diabetic and cut pop (I use to drink about 8 cans a day) right out and am now trying to cut out potatoes and things like that. Its hard to do. Should I get a new doctor? How do I find out for sure if I am? Thanks for the help and support.

Thanks, am now down a total of 92 pounds...only 14 more pounds to reach my goal!

I am currently on Glucophage XR 500mg twice a day, so maybe the 1000mg figure you mentioned is true. For just over a year I was also on Prandin 2mg tablets (2 tablets three times a day before meals) but have been able to discontinue that one as a result of the weight loss.

I hope you're able to gain better control of your numbers, I know how hard it can be. Best Wishes to you!

Kathi,

I agree that you need to be on glucophage 1000 twice per day and need to decrease the Amaryl. Glucophage sensitizes your system to the insulin you make. Amaryl kicks your pancreas to make more insulin and to cover your post prandial blood sugar elevations. A 53 means that you are on too much Amaryl. So I hope that your doctor adjusts your meds. I have never heard that the increased doseage of metforim/glucophage had any effect on losing weight. It is just that not all people lose weight on metformin. I wish this was the case for all of us.

I hope you are feeling beter real soon and back to your usual self. Please let us know what you MRI showed and what the doctor's are recommending for you to do next. I am keeping my figers crossed that everything will be okay with you.

Have a great weekend,

Mary Frances

Kathi, Forgot to add some information which may shed a little more light on my weight loss. Along with the Glucophage XR 500mg twice daily, I am following my meal plan (arranged with my dietician) very, very closely and I am sure this is also a key factor in my success. I always hated the word "diet" because it meant deprivation, my meal plan is a lifestyle adjustment which we have adjusted according to my BS and goals I have set forth for myself. Currently I eat 12 carbs/1650 calories a day and I find I have plenty to eat. Have you met with a dietician? In addition to that, I spend a minimum of 90 minutes per day walking/exercising in the pool, living in Florida I am blessed to have access to the pool 12 months of the year. I wish you success. I'm on 8 carb units daily. Sundays are really difficult for me. I can't seem to get enough to eat in the evening. I'm sure it's because I hate Sundays so much. I'm so alone.

It's been a bad day for me since I was little. As the day wears on, I get crabbier and crabbier.

I have a dietician, but haven't met with her for about 2 months. Attended the CDE classes in February, I think. Can't remember. So much has been happening to me.

Am trying to do water walking and a water home exercise program. Walking for very long on hard ground causes too much pain in my legs and hips.

Thanks for your help.

My BG is back where it should be. Had a 140 this am that I can't explain, but other than that no repeats of the low ones.

Am headed for a total hip! Am scared. It shouldn't be for a while, I hope. Am to see the ortho again in 6 wks. Start PT tomorrow, and am going to press for a home program right away. That way I can be doing what they instruct while I'm there, and I can be having something at home to do. If they try to kick me out because of my secondary insurance, I'm going to suggest they just use the Medicare. I'm in a rather sad mood today (have been since the MRI-actually the report on the X-rays of the avascular necrosis). I'm too young for this crap!

Am running in the 70-80's or have been for the last couple of weeks. That 53 really threw me especially because I didn't really think I had any sx. Guess it was good that I had to get up to go to the bathroom at 3:30AM and decided to just check the BS, huh?

Hope you're feeling better now.

Once I get in a better mood, I'll be a regular again.
