heat and blood sugars? I have found myself having more and more problems with hypoglycemic reactions since the weather in my area is going up and down. It seems after we get my insulin adjusted just right my blood sugars go nuts again so that we have to do some more adjusting. I feel frustrated about it, but I know all to well it is just something that comes with the territory.
Well, hope your doing better than myself since I seem to be doing badly with lows. Really hoping to find just the right amount of insulin to get me set up once again. At least I will be getting my Paradigm pump traded for the new one, which I cannot wait to use it to see if it will help with me not having so many lows since it has so many more wonderful functions. Take care and do have a super fabulous weekend!

Could a "low" be relative? In the last two months of testing, I have never seen myself go below the 90s, even after exercise. In fact, the only times I've gotten below 100 has been after exercise. So I'm not sure I could have gone too low that morning. But there are a lot of things I am still learning, it seems.
I agree, the bagel was probably a poor choice. I just felt with all the walking I would be doing, the exercise would counteract it. Seems odd it would be that high three hours after eating. But like I said, I am still learning about how my body reacts to different things, so it could have been that, too.
My doctor did an hba1c on me about two months ago. That's when I was rediagnosed.
I was first diagnosed 7-8 years ago with this same doctor. I switched doctors for awhile, simply for convenience sake - got everything under control, and this other doctor said I was no longer diabetic. Now I realize that was not a good thing to tell me! Mainly because it's not true, and also because I believed it, and eventually slipped back into my old ways.
Since then, I've come back to this clinic and to this doctor, and that's why he opted to run the hba1c on me, given my history and the symptoms I was exhibiting.
This time it was 7.7, and my fasting level was 247. This week we did another test - I thought it was another hba1c, which I couldn't figure out, given it was only two months. Even the dietician in reading his notes thought the same. But apparently this was to test my lipids.
My triglycerides and cholesterol are all in the borderline high range, and my good cholesterol is too low. Those numbers don't seem to have changed much in two months. So now they want me to start taking Lipitor. My regular doctor is out of the office this week, so a different doctor looked at my results and recommended the Lipitor. I'm going to go ahead and fill the script, but try to talk to my doc next week. Also, I want to schedule the 3-month test, and am wondering why he didn't.
My fasting glucose this time was 148. Is that good progress for 2 months time (247 to 148)? Or should it be better? I have, with some exceptions during travelling, been sticking to a 1500-1600 calorie a day diet, and attempting to exercise 35 min. a day. I am watching all carb intake, trying to eat healthy, and have eliminated most "junk." The only junk I keep around is low-carb ice cream, which I am now realizing is too high in sat fat. I feel like I'm doing the right things, I just have no idea if it's working the way it should.
Thanks... I wanted to put an exclamation point there, but that key will not work right now for some reason...

Gina,
Sounds to me like you are doing just fine. We are all learning all the time with this disease and still we make mistakes and have to live through it. There is no such thing as curing your diabetes. All you did was get it under control. But diabetes is a progressive chronic disease which means that it gets worse over time. It seems to run in about 5-7 year cycles. You get it under control and go on with your life when suddenly it isn't under control anymore. I can see the cycles because I have been diabetic for about 15 years.
It also sounds like you are getting appropriate medical advise from your health care practitioner also. Congratulations on all fronts!
