Seems like since I have added one or two things sweetened with splenda (one of which I will be tossing) my bs is a few points higher. I also found an article that says splenda can raise your A1c. Have any of you noticed this happening? I won't be getting splenda stuff anymore...the thing I am tossing is cozy pudding sweetened with splenda. It was really YUCKY. I hate that chemical taste.

Hi Lynn,

I haven't seen the article either. I sort of have a love-hate relationship with splenda. Some products I don't mind it in and others I can't stand it. When I cook with it I usually use only 1/2 of the called for amount and use sugar for the rest. My sister just made orange marmalade with splenda. I haven't tasted it yet because my sister keeps forgetting to give me a jar. Usually if I use it full strength it tastes too sweet for my taste buds.

The thing that everybody must remember is: even though you use splenda to replace the simple sugar in an item, in most cases there are still carbs present and calories and so those things can raise your blood sugar and increase your weight.

Please let me know if you find out anymore.

MaryFrances... real sugar doesn't do this, just splenda. And nutraswwet doesn't either. I don't know why. Here is the link. http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm# I don't know how valid they are but you never know. Right?

Considering that this guy ("Dr." Mercola) is pushing all kinds of wonderful supplements, I would tend to take anything he says with a ton of salt!

I've been using Splenda in cooking and as a table sweetener for almost four years. Like Mary Francis, when baking, I generally use it for 1/2 the sugar required. Have never noticed an aftertaste or off-taste in home-made foods. Maybe the funny taste in the boughten products isn't a function of the sweetener at all.........

Cheryl nope that is the only thing that has changed. I don't use it otherwise, when I bake I use real sugar and if I need to sweeten something I use nutrasweet. Which I don't do very often. That is the only new thing around in my "diet". Here is another place to read on it...if I find more I will post.

I choose not to believe there is a problem with it.

I didn't post this to cause problems or to say this is all true. I won't post anything anymore. I'm sorry :(

Lynn,

Cheryl didn't mean to insult you or to stop you from posting on the board. Please don't take offense or give up so easily.

There is so much stuff out on the internet that is hard to know where to turn to get accurate information. I know that I am a real nurse with a current license

Hi Lynn! My Chiropractor had something sitting out when I was there last week that wasn't flattering to Splenda. I didn't take a good enough look to see what it was saying, but I'll ask him about it when I see him tomorrow. I'll get the link. It's something he just printed off, so I'm not sure if it was a new article or study or what it was based on.
