Hello all ! My name is Stephanie. I am Type 2, I was diagnosed in Jan on this year. My father is type 2 so was my grandfather. I am overweight- so my dr told me that has played a big part in all of this. Since Jan I have lost 30 pounds. I would like to loose 30-40 more. I take Glucophage XR & check my sugar before breakfast & supper & an hour after supper. I was having to ck it before every meal- but my Dr says that I am doing good, and its not neccesary to do it so often. I have finally started to feel better, not as tired as I was before all of this conspired. My main goal is to learn to eat better, I have changed alot of things- but it seems so hard with 3 kids. Plus we seem to eat out alot- which is even harder. Now that I am off for the summer I would really like to learn more ways to eat healthier, cook good meals for us all, get motivated to exercise EVERYDAY ! Also meet people who are going thru what I am. For those on the same meds as me- what side effects have you had , if any ? All of you please throw me some tips, emails, websites ...you name it I want it. I also hope to meet you all & figure out this board system.

Thanks

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical assistance from a health care practitioner of your choice.

Congratulations on your weight loss. That has gone a long ways toward getting your diabetes under control.

There is so much to tell you and I don't want to overwhelm you with information. First off: as you look at the board you will see a folder labeled "recipes". These are recipes that

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes my Dr sent me to a nutrionist- she was a great help, but I felt like it was alot to learn in an 1 1/2 hours. My head hurt when I was done....lol Thanks for the info on the after dinner testing. My Dr said " an hour or so " - to make sure things were ok. My meds actually are Metformin ER- thats generic for Glucophage XR. I have stomach aches every now & then- my Dr said if I can live with it he would prefer to keep me on the meds I am on due to it being really good. Thats the only thing I have noticed since taking the meds. I would welcome a decrease in appetite though...esp around my monthly cycle. I am so confused right now with all the low carb stuff on the market. The nutrionist told me how many carbs per meal & snack. So I try my best to follow that. But certain things I have seen & bought list the carbs w/ nutrion facts- but also say things like only 2 net gram carbs per serving- like its differnt. Am I making since ? Cant they make labels less confusing ! Well it is getting late, I will pop in tomorrow. Thanks again !

Thanks ! I feel much better too. But I know I will feel better once I get my butt moving on a regular basis. We have an inground pool at our new house- so I have really been swimming alot. Which feels really good ! But I have a treadmill & a recumbant bike that needs dusting off & used more frequent...lol. Another thing I have noticed is my periods seem to be really "off" lately. Like I will start & go 3-4 days stop totally for 1-2 days then start again for another day or 2. Have you had any problems ? Sorry if too much info, but I figured who better to ask than a woman like me on the same meds. Your children look very cute ! I have an online pic album of my family

Thanks for the welcome & I will check into those books you mentioned. I have not read anything other thatn what I recieved at the dieticians office & online. But now that I have time I am going to make use of it & get a little more educated.

Thanks again!

Hello...or should I say Hola !

I know about 20 or so words in Spanish- I have taught Head Start for a few years, so I learned alot from the kids. It is cool to meet another Nebraska person ! we maybe neighbors & not know it. We live in Grand Island, we just moved here from Aurora in Feb. But have been in Ne for 5 years. I love it here...well I am not a winter person...but I am learning to manage.

Congrats on your weight loss. It is so hard. I wish the rest would come off as easy as the first 30 did. My dr & I would both be HAPPY !

Isnt it nice having summers off ? I have enjoyed mine so far. We have a inground pool at our new house, so I have been doing alot of swimming, which feels so good. I am going to look into some weights to use in the pool, I think that will really work my legs....or drown me one...LOL

I really look forward to getting to know you & everyone on this board !

Thanks again !

No not quite neighbors. AWWW Mexico- HOT HOT HOT !! Growing up in TX I know humidity. ICKY ICKY ! My dh surprised me today with a new exercise thingy- its called the Crossbow platinum- its alot like a bow flew- but is digitel, it keeps up with your reps & all kinds of other cool stuff. We havent put it all together yet. IT has lots & lots of parts....lol. I hope it is as good as it looks. I really need to tone all the flab thats hanging south. I am just out of shape. I am sore today though. I swap back in forth in the pool yesterday w/ flippers on- wow that felt great w/ the resistence & all. But man I am sore today. I have been cleaning & getting ready for a garage sale. I too procrastinate in geeting stuff done- here I am too. A video class sounds fun- I am taking alot of technology classes this summer for my new job. I have a 2 day seminar in Lincoln- I think I am going alone- no hubby orkids & relaxing- sounds bad I know. But it will be a nice little break for me.

Well I need to get up & get the last of my work done for the day.

Take care,

Steph

Hi Steph! I know we always see ourselves differently than other see us as we're much more hard on ourselves, but I think you look great now! You and your mom look so much alike! And more similarities...my nickname is Mimi! It's actually on my license plates! Did you buy the Yorkie puppy you were holding in the picture? I see you're wearing beaded bracelet's in the picture too...did you make them? That's become a recent passion of mine! My parent's have a big pool and we spend a lot of time there. They're only 2 miles from us so it's an easy trip!
