HI I am new here my name is Melody.. and was just diagnosed as having type 2 diabetic.. its taken a toll on me for sure.. I was brought home with a monitor for checking blood three times a day and a new way of eating.. I have had alot of questions and sometimes I just need a place that I can vent .. I just its to much for me to take in that I have this.. I have cried every day since last Wednesday.. Friday night I cried until 4 in the morning.. I dont like having to prick my finger.. I always hated it having to be done in the doctor's office and now I have to do it myself? WEll so anyway its all taking some getting use to..

If I lose weight will I not have to check it anymore.. could I get off the medicine ? or is all of this permanent

And what is considered low and high numbers is it different on every person.. so thanks for listening and for all the support that comes from these rooms. its rooms like this that keep me sane :) bye Melody

Hi Meloday and welcome to the board. I am one of the community leaders for this board with type 1 for over 29 years now using an insulin pump for over 6 years now. I am so sorry you are having such a rough time with being diagnosed. Just know that you are not alone at all and that we have several new members who all where just recently diagnosed themselves.

Now as for your questions. Losing weight will help you to get in better control, but nobody can say for sure if you will or will not need to check your blood sugar since we are all so different. As for the blood sugars generally many doctors like to see blood sugars between 80 to 120, but some doctors don't mind their patients having blood sugars at 140 so it basically is set according to what individual doctors want. Now high blood sugar is considered anything above what your doctor sets as your goal, but generally if you are at 200 or more your blood sugar is high. Blood sugars run at different levels for each person with diabetes so it really is based on what your doctor prefers.

I hope this helps you some and that you get answers to all your questions. I know it isn't easy at all changing what you are so use to eating and drinking, which now you have to change to get yourself in better health by doing so. I know it is rough right now, but believe me with time you will not even relise that you have a routine down that you don't even know that you are doing things. Do take care and don't hesitate to post any other questions you might have since I just know one of the members will be able to help you out with an answer. Take care and do have a wonderful day!

HI Denise,

Thanks for welcoming me to the group.. and I have felt so alone so very alone its not even funny. so I am glad that I have found this board:) one of the things that I am having a hard time doing is eating period. its like I dont wont to eat at all.. and I talked to a health professional today on the telephone and she said I had to eat at least 3 meals a day and two snacks a day. and its hard for me to put anything into my mouth.. she also mentioned about sleep getting enough sleep at night .. well hello!!!!! I am awake lol.. I have so much in my life that goes on that its hard for me to sleep. I am awake all through the night using the bathroom.. at least two or three times a night. I never knew that was from being a diebetic. this year I was like wow I get up alot to go potty in the middle of the night.. and that I have to drink plenty of water.. hmmm

WEll I will do whatever I have to because I do not want to wind up like my mom did who had to take insulin shots several times a day.. I just dont know if I could do that. but I dont have to worry about that right now..

I start thinking nah this is bull you dont have it.. or I think well let me do a study on myself and just eat like I use to eat and take readings and see if they are higher.. but you know I am not going to do that because all that is doing is messing me up more. I guess in a way maybe I have been in a state of denial.. I have had many other signs of a diebetic..

I get lesions really bad.. I have Hedridnitus supparvo something like that anyway I am sick alot with that.. and I have had to get glasses because within the past six months my eyes got really bad to see like on the computer or to drive like at night well just to see period.. you dont realize how well you can see until you have glasses and you can see. lol..

I also have a nerve problem in my leg right leg up by my thigh and I am in alot of pain with that.. I tried walking like on a track or something a while back.. and I could only walk 1/2 mile.. it hurt so bad to walk.. when I have been up all day at work and I come home I cant walk hardly .. and I have bad feet problems where the heal of my foot on the bottom hurts me so bad sometimes when I get up I have to literally rock myself several times before getting up.. I was going to the pool and walking for an hour in the pool.. but I havent done that lately because of the lesions (boils) and I havent felt good..

I am glad I found this group when I start guessing this disease I know where to go and that is to come here and talk about what I am feeling or thinking about.. bye for now .. Melody

Hi Meloday,

I suggest that you maybe just try eating several smaller meals that would equal into 3 regular size meals, because I really know how it is to not feel like eating at all. Now on the going to the bathroom several times a night try not to drink anything after say 5 or 6 p.m to see if that helps any at all.

Your not alone at all with millions being diagnosed daily. Sleep is very important, because if you do not get enough sleep it will raise your blood sugar. It is said to at least get 4 to 5 hours of sleep straight through in order for it not to affect your blood sugar. I know it is hard when your going to the bathroom so many times a night, which is a sign of your blood sugar being high or low. Have you tried checking your blood sugar after you have gotten up in the middle of the night to see what it is running.

I sure hope you see your doctor and diabetic educator often to get this all under control. I know it is so hard to deal with at first, but it does get easier as time goes by though. Take care of yourself and have a great day!
