Hey,

WEll I go to class in two weeks and its only for one week four times 2 hours a day for 4 days.. she told me I need to eat at least 30 g of carbs 5 times a day and exercise and we went over somethings to eat and not eat. I lost 11.5 pounds since May..most I think was in the past week though.. I have a headache right now I just got through eating so maybe that will calm down a bit. so that makes it a little bit easier to count carbs and watch salt intake a bit. When I came out I started thinking can I do all of this it sems so overwhelming to me right now.. but I guess I will get it down.. she said my numbers are not high for a diebetic.. I forgot what one of the numbers were but one was 6.3 that is not that bad.. but its not normal either.. she explained to me that a person that was not a diebetic numbers wouldnt go up they would basically stay the same..so it just affirmed once more that I have got to watch what I eat.. She also told me that I will be on meds forever and it might get to where I dont have to test but 3 or 4 times a week.. its just in the beginning until I get it under control do I have to check it that much so they can see what is going on..I guess that is all for now.. bye room.. I am so proud of you Mandy for doing the class, because I know it will help you out tremendously and for seeing a diabetic educator. You are doing a great thing by doing both of those things since it really helps so many of us to be educated on things we really need to know with being diabetic. I know it is overwhelming right now, but once you let it all set in your mind you will have no problems so just give it some time for all of what you learn to sink in. So try not to stress to much right now and do what must be done.

At least you are starting from a great place by getting educated, which so many don't do right away. So you be proud of yourself for taking the initiative and doing what it best for you. I really hope you learn lots and feel better about things after you have finished the class. Take care and have a super great day!

Melody-Glad to hear you went to see the diabetic counselor and have some classes scheduled. You'll learn a lot. Also glad to hear that you sound so much more enthusiastic about living with diabetes. (well maybe that's not the right word, but it does sound like you realize you can still live a good life with this disease.) Keep on losing that weight. It really does help, with all the important levels we diabetics have to watch, and even a little exercise each day works wonders. Your weight won't come off instantly. Not sure how much you want to lose, but it didn't learn to enjoy being with you overnight, so it won't leave any faster. Take it good & slow, that way it'll stay off. There's still plenty of foods we can enjoy. Just stay away from the "ready made or packaged" section in the supermarkets & stay in the fresh food area. Don't get caught up in all the new "carb free" foods that are croping up everywhere. A lot of "regular" foods are just fine, and sometimes have less carbs & fat than the new stuff. We all need to become "smart shoppers". It takes a little longer the first few weeks. I was really frustrated when I was first diagnosed last year. I would come home from the grocery store totally frustrated & ticked off. My husband just encouraged me to take it easy, go shopping when I felt energized & take my time. Now it's sorta funny when I do go. I look at other people's shopping carts & just want to take those people & show them all the junk they're buying for their kids. I watch & can see so many children headed for diabetes and a bad future health life. It's really kinda sad. I've also learned to enjoy so many more foods that I know I never would have eaten before. My husband has always been a fresh fruit & veggie person, which I've cooked for him but not eaten, along with some good meat, but I always managed to get junk food in there. It amazes me now, all the great food I've ignored all my life. Just take the time to read any labels really good for a while to understand what's in the food we eat. After your classes, you'll see a whole different light. Good luck & look forward to hearing about your successes. Marsha
