Diabetes Sugar Diets

Hi All,
There are so many books and guides out on the market. Is there any particular diet or book that people who suffer from diabetes can follow. I've just been diagnosed so I need some sort of structure to follow as far as what foods to eat and what to stay away from. Meals that I can cook that will give me energy and satisy but keep my blood sugar down. Please let me know what you suggest. It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I am still new to this myself was diagnosed 13 days ago.. and was put on meds.. and had to start eating healthier..What I have done is walked or done some kind of exercise for at least 30 minutes a day as often as possible.. I also was told that I needed to be on a 30 gram carbs for breakfast snack .. Lunch snack supper .. I stay away from pasta .. rice.. french fries.. chicken mcnuggets.. I work at McDonalds have not had a fry in 13 days nor a hashbrown.. doing this I have managed to lose some weight.. I go tomorrow and weigh and will know how much I have lost.. I would say about oh . about 4 pounds lol.. but the scales will tell me tomorrow.. As far as I understand it you can have what you want its HOW MUCH YOU EAT of that.. and not everyday would you eat sugary stuff like desserts.. so anyway I hope that what I have said has helped you out to some degree..
This group is the best group to be involved in.. there are days I just sit and read and read and read.. and get answers from others.. and advice.. look forward to getting to know you.. take care have a great evening bye bye Melody
There are two websites that I recommend for new diabetics to check out. Check out www.diabetes.org, which is the web site for the American Diabetes Association and www.joslin.org., which is the web site for the Joslin Diabetes Center. The Joslin Clinic also has a special section for newly diagnosed. Both the ADA and Joslin have good books for diabetics. Also Diabetes for Dummies is a good book to start with.
But all of this is not a substitute for diabetes education classes. So if you haven't been referred to a diabetes care team for education classes please ask your physician to refer you. The cost of these classes is covered by many insurance companies. It is far less expensive to offer you these classes than it is to pay for the complications of diabetes. Please remember, you will manage your disease 24/7/365 and so you need to know when to see assistance from your physician.
Please pull up a chair and join our conversation. We are here to celebrate success, lament failures and give gentle shoves when necessary. We have all been where you are right now. You are amoungst friends.
A gentle hug,
