I went to an endocrinologist last week and lo and behold, I have Type 1, not Type 2, that's why my numbers went up when I lost weight. I had been on Metformin for several days and he screamed NO! when I told him that (and scared my kids). Apparently that med causes heart failure in Type 1s. 50% mortality rate. Great. So I'm on insulin now and indefinately. I'm very blue. I hate giving myself the shots. I'm not a scheduled person, I don't know how I'm going to be able to give myself a shot every night at 6pm.
Thanks for listening.
Meredith

Meredith,
I'm sorry for the shock you received.

Hey Meredith -
I don't want you to get down on yourself, but I know how big the adjustment can be.

Oh Meredith, I have to say that when I read your post I was utterly shocked that you were diagnosed incorrectly and given the wrong medication. That does make me angry since the doctors are suppose to know what they are doing and if not sure call somebody who does before diagnosing or prescribing anything. I have seen to many general physicians that don't know a darn thing about diabetes with them treating patients with it.
Now as for the not knowing how to remember to take your shot at 6 PM I suggest that you either get a watch with an alarm that you can set, some cell phones also have alarms you can set, and does some palm pilots or schedulars. This is just my suggestions though, which I used a watch made by timex that allowed for me to set
Glad you found out what was happening to you. Now, if you don't have a med-alert bracelet, get one! Super Walmart has them I discovered Saturday for $6. If I were you, I'd get one that says you're on insulin. Even if it only says "Diabetic", it's the safest measure to take.
(((hugs)))

How did the doctor decide that you are a type 1? What shot are you giving yourself every night?
Just curious,
