HI Denise and Everyone!

It's been a while since I have posted, but I still come to the board often and am interested in how you all are doing.

Some news...I am not on the pump currently. As much as I hate injections, I decided to return to them for a while. I was having some problems with my pump and had a lot of uncertainty with whether it was doing what it was supposed to do...deliver insulin to my body. For about a week, I struggled with getting my blood sugar under control. The lowest numbers I was seeing during that period was around 200..eek :(. It turns out that my pump was not giving me a no delivery alarm and also there was a problem with my infusion set. Although I changed the set once, I had a problem with the second one as well and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out what was going on and what the problem was. My Endo. was very understanding and we communicated a lot during that period of time. He even was ok when I just dropped in at his office unannounced with no appointment. I know many doctors would not like that very much at all. Anyway, to try to make a long story short... I got a new pump, but still decided to return to injections until my blood sugar stabelizes some. Already I have seen a dramatic difference in my blood sugar readings, which I am so happy about. The control freak in me likes to have complete control 100 percent of the time..of course that's pretty unlikely being a type 1 diabetic. So that about sums things up on things right now for me.

Denise, how is the new pump working out for you? Is the meter working ok? I have heard some mix reviews about it. I have the one you used to have, the Paradigm 511. I hope to return to it at some point in the future, but for right now I'll stick to injections.

Hope everyone is well :)

It is so good to see a post from you. I sure have missed you and wondered how you were doing. I got called about 2 weeks ago from MiniMed to get my 511 exchanged due to a freezing up problem with them, but I never experienced any problems at all with mine. I did not need to get it exchanged since the very next day I received the 512 from them and returned the 511 back to them as this was the deal I had made.

Well, as far as the new pump goes it is wonderful. I have only had a few low blood sugars compared to using the old pump so that is a big improvement for me. I did compare the meters and found that they run very close to the point that there really is not much difference at all between the readings. I absolutely love the meter with it not requiring much time or blood, which is vital when you have children to take care of and do not want to mess with them about this. Besides my control has improved so very much so keep up all that great work you have done. Have a wonderful day!

Hello, I was wondering where you disappeared to.

I of course pictured you sunning yourself on a

lounge aboard a cruise ship sipping on a cold

sugar-free drink.

I'm sorry to hear your pump wasn't working properly.

That's scary. Back to basics with the needles. Well,

at least you know then that you are indeed getting the

right amount of Insulin. I'm very glad to hear that

your sugar levels are looking alot better.

The same thing happened to my cousin's boy a while back.

They couldn't figure out why his sugar levels were so high.

He ended up in the hospital and they found out his pump

wasn't delivering the Insulin to his body. He went back on

needles also and thankfully he is doing good again.

I know what you mean about needing to feel in control. I

test 5 times a day because it would drive me crazy not

knowing what my levels are.

Glad to hear you are still around...Take Care...***Carlie*** :)

Hi,

I am so glad you stopped by and gave us an update on you. We really do wonder about folks when we don't see them anymore.

Do get down on yourself about not using the pump. Sometimes folks take a vacation from the pump since it takes more work than just giving yourself shots. There were some problems with the 511 and the infusion sets and so perhaps you ran into that. When you are in a different fram of mind you can try it again.

Since you were last here I have been started on insulin and it certainly is difficult to manage my blood sugars. But I am on a basal insulin and so I am still making some and therefore not a candidate for a pump. Supposedly I am resting my pancreas and therefore preserving its ability to make insulin.

Take care and please stop by to visit more often.

Hey you,

Glad you're finally feeling better.

The experience you had with your pump is the exact reason why I don't want to go on one, well it's reason number one.

My aunt had similar problems which resulted in at least 2 DKA episodes of +500 numbers (I believe she had one of the Minimed pumps as well).
