absolutely hate doing the wonderful 24 hour urine collection? I finally took care of mine Monday to Tuesday, which I was so lucky that there was enough room in the darn small jug they give to use for collecting since I have been known to need 2 jugs and only had the one to use. I also got 5 vials of blood drawn to check my iron, A1c, creatnine(sp?) clearance, and also check for HIV since I always have this done while pregnant. Hopefully the results will be in before my next doctor appointment with my ob/gyn since I really want to know how I am doing. I also was put on iron since I had signs of being low that a nurse at our local WIC's office said I looked like my iron level was low, but do not know how she would come up with that just by how I looked. Oh well, at least it is being checked and I am already doing something about it if by chance it is low.
I do have to say though that the lab was moving so slow with one patient who left after having his blood drawn I sat there for 15 to 20 minutes waiting for my name to be called when it finally I was up. There were 2 people working back where they do the blood draws so I have no idea why it took so long, which made me feel bad since my boys and husband wanted to wait for me in the van so that we didn't need to pack the boys in with the blood draw not taking so long. I came out to find them all standing in the shade to stay cool, which made me glad to see especially with how hot it was outside. Oh this is not the first time either that I had to wait so gosh darn long with the time before this I was simply their to drop off my slip and get a jug to collect my urine, which it took them 35 minutes to get to me with having only one patient back there getting their blood drawn. Hmmmmm Maybe I need to have it all done at the hospitals lab across the street since they are quick and great, which I know the tech's who work there.
Ok, all done with my vent or what ever you want to call it. LOL Hope you have a fabulous day and take care especially with this heat we have been having all over.

The 24 hour collection is a very sore subject with me, and I had serious problems trying to get the test completed (I go into brain lock and my body refuses to do it).

Just isn't that 24 hour test so wonderful, NOT! LOL I have to say that I am so thankful I got it done, but I just know my doctor will pull a fast one on me and ask for me to do another one later down the road so for now I just rather think that was all for a long while. hehehe The things we do to satisfy our minds makes me just cackle.
I bet your dad and stepmom had a tough time of getting their test done especially in a small RV bathrooom. Ughhhhhh I just can picture it after living in a very small camper trailer how rough it is to do a 24 hour test, which thankfully I did not have to do one while we lived in one until our home was all ready for us.
No I was not fasting since I was not at all required to do so for the few tests I had done. Boy how the those lab workers do love to gab to themselves especially the first day I went in there was only one person working at that very moment when I thought there was 2 back there. LOL Never know about them. hehehe I am just happy to say I am in no need for any blood test for a super long time now. Yay for me! Just shows you can never arrive at a lab at just the right moment to get some blood drawn. haha
Do take care and have a very pleasant day!
A down and dirty way to tell if you need iron is to look at the white part of the eyes. If there is a bluish cast then the person is most likely iron deficient. Of course the only absolutely accurate way is to do a blood test.
My urine tests for microalbumin have all been normal and so I haven't had to do a 24 hour urine. Let's hope this stays that way!
Stay cool and enjoy your weekend. Someone that I know exposed me to their cold and now I have it! So I am trying to be quiet and get over it quickly. At least my sore throat is gone but the hoariness is still here. Blood sugars haven't been too bad either.

Thank you so very much Mary Frances for that information, because that must have been what the WIC nurse meant by look at her eyes she looks like she has low iron. At least my doctor gave me a prescription for some so that way if I am low I can build it back up and not have any bad problems from that while awaiting for my test results to come in.
So terribly sorry to hear of your having a cold, but very glad that the sore throat is pretty much gone and that your blood sugars have been not to bad especially while sick. You also stay cool, get lots of rest to fight off that cold, and enjoy your weekend.
