I have been eating an english muffin with butter and some honey lightly spread on it. I have found that after having this my blood sugar tends to be a little higher than what I want it to be and I think it is due to not knowing what exactly is in the honey with no nutritional label on the honey container. How much is in honey exactly? Since I do not seem to find any information on this any place and really do love to have some of it every other day. I appreciate any help you can offer me on honey, because I want to enjoy it only with knowing exactly how many carbs and sugars are in a given serving size. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Since I was diagnosed, I have only had honey voluntarily a few times - once to cure a low, a couple times I was on one of my "bad" streaks.

Thank you Gabby for that information. I really do not use much at all on my english muffins and have not found it to be so bad on me really. I have checked out the sugar free spreads and found that they have ton more calories and carbs to them so I stear clear of them. I generally just use the regular ones since they are not that bad really in sugar sense and I am not one who eats lots of jelly or jam on anything at all. My boys both love their peanut butter sandwhiches so we stick with what they will eat. Besides neither one needs to worry about their sugar intake or calories. Maybe I will try out a sugar free one for the fun of it to see what happens. Take care and do have a great day!

Denise,

This took some searching to find! 1 tablespoon of honey is equal to 15 grams of carbs. Probably if you measured it and didn't have more than 1 teaspoon your blood sugar wouldn't go so high. Do remember honey is just like sugar for raising your blood sugar. (Might I suggest that you look at some low-sugar jams or jellies instead of the honey?)

Cheers,

Thank you Mary Frances for that information. I did know that honey was just like sugar though since they used it when I went to summer diabetic camp as a child to raise blood sugar with. I do not even use a teaspoon of it, but my blood sugar does not seem to go very high just higher than I want it to is all. I am one who doesn't care much for jams or jellies with having grown up without having any of them at all. I have tried a strawberry spread, which I found was just ok not very thrilled over it though. At least I only have the honey every so often so it isn't as if I use it daily just once in a while as a little treat. Oh, the things we find we like only to be so very bad for us can drive a person nuts. Take care and do have a great day!
