Need help encouraging brother w type 2

My brother was diagnosed 2 years ago, with type 2. The only reason why he found out was because of a toe infection. This led to his left big toe being amputated. 2 months ago, we found out the infection was not completely removed, due in part to him never going back for a follow up examination after his surgery. He NEVER goes to the doctor. Needless to say, his foot was amputated above the ankle. No one knows how long he has had this disease. Now, his vision is blurry. Made an imediate appointment for him, the blood vessels behind both eyes are bleeding, and a detached retna in his right eye. Needs surgery, and can only hope for 40% vision. He will be legally blind, and will never be able to drive a car again.
With his toe he was fine..able to go back to work (he is a WORKAHOLIC) With his foot, he became depressed, yet was assured he would be a fine candidate for prosthesis. With is vision, he has given up. He is so depressed, and I don't know what else to do or say to him. I mush admit, I am so defeated myself. We have gone through so much to raise his spirits, and all we thought was that he needed to update his prescription with his glasses. Now, we are being told, his vision will never be the same. He is only 40 years old.
Please give me any advise you can, or information on the surgery, and vision loss if you know of someone, or have experienced this yourself.

BTW....I'm type 2 diabetes as well. I am controlling it with diet and exercise, no need for medication just yet. However, I am worried about myself too.
Thank you in advance.

Oh Stephanie, I am so terribly sorry your brother had to go through so much in such a short amount of time. I know how you must be so scared for him with all that he has gone through. My first suggestion for you is to get him into some counseling since depression is also part of diabetes for some, which with some help and support most generally get
Hi Stephanie!!!
