yes, i have and i highly recommend it. i know there are a lot of you here on this board who don't believe in the high fat and aTkins plans for diabetes. but it has saved my life. that and with the help of a new drug called Avandamet. it is a combo of avandia and metformin. hence the name.

i used to weigh about 250 and now today i weigh 173. and still dropping, granted my job hinders me from exercising very often, but i have gotten better just recetnly with going back and walking about 5 miles a day, and biking half of that.

my blood sugars are down and when i eat the high fat & Atkins way it helps control my blood sugar. my cholesterol is stable and my bp is also stable. not that either one of those has ever been high.

read it, buy it, follow it, if it truly helps you! I have a link for you and will get it to you soon! it isn't actually Atkins, but it is a link for high fat and carbs and such, it should amaze you.

Meg,

Because I am one of the community leaders for this board and a registered nurse, I am going to offer you the following advise. Do not start any diet plan of anykind without checking it our with your health care provider. If he or she recommends the Atkins plan then you can follow it. I am not in a position to recommend it. We no longer call it a diabetic diet. It is now called medical nutritional therapy because what you eat, when you eat it and how much you eat

hey gellee long time no here! i agree w/Meg2bdifferent... i too am a follower of the Atkins plan and have HAD HIGH bloodsugars. i am turning my beliefs towards the Carb Addicts lifestyle, there's a board for this too.

i like the 2 CM 1RM deal better than the only 20grms carb on the Atkins. but we each have a preference. i have read one of your other posts and realize that like CLmaryfrances has said, you have already contacted u'r doctors and they are all about your attempts to lose weight.

Congrats, because there are plenty of doctors oout there who still do'nt agree w/the high fat, low carb craze.

i fortunately have an approval from my doctor to do whatever it takes.

the main thing for everyone to remember is that EXERCISE, WATER, WATER, WATER, and sensible eating for your "YOU~NESS" is always the way to survive.

good luck, Myra

Wow, I have never even heard of that book or seen it. My husband does follow to some degree the atkins diet, but not to a full extent to help him loose some weight. It seems to be not to bad since he isn't complaining about being hungry or not getting enough to eat. I make him eat small amounts of some carbs each day though since my doctor has told me that the atkins diet is not a good one for me so I just use my meal plan that I was given by a nutritionist. The meal plan has worked well for me so far since my last A1c was 5.4 and it has never been down that far with my lowest ever being 5.8.

Please do share with us if you purchase the book what your thoughts are on it since I know there are a few of us who would love to hear about it from somebody who has read the book through once. Take care and do have a great day!

As the book itself recommends...do nothing without talking to your MD first. Atkins pioneered the "carb control" concept of dieting to bring high bs's down. It has taken years for cardio and dibetes DR's to finally come around to the Atkins plan of attack on diabetes and heart disease... but they finally are. Years ago the ADA diet food pyramid was carb heavy, they have slowly begun to change it, restricting carbs and/or eliminating some of them alltogether. The importance of protein and fat in stabalizing bs's can't be ignored.
