Hi,

Im currently awaiting my blood test results to see if I have diabetes. Im having some odd symptoms though, and was curious if any of you had any familairity with them. Almost a month ago I started to notice that my left foot and left hand felt somewhat numb. Not completely numb, I could still sense things...basically a loss of sensation I should say. About a week later my torse started to feel the same way, but it was more than my hands and feet. After a week I went to my doctor because it was all on my left side, and I was freaking thinking it was a stroke or something. Luckily, it wasnt a stroke. They seem to be leaning more towards diabetes or possibly Multiple Sclerosis. I had an MRI done, and it does show some lesions that are common with MS, however with some people they are normal. They drew blood for a diabetes screening along with thyroid too. Diabetes runs heavily on both sides of my family, plus Im 5'3 and weigh 250 lbs, so type II is a big risk for me. Other than that my only other symptoms are frequent urination. Does this sound like it would be diabtes? I dont often hear about loss of sensation or circulation stuff with diabetes. Im really nervous, and am just looking for some insight or advice. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dina

Hi Dina welcome to the board.

Frequent urination is usually a typical symptom of diabetes. Numbness in feet and hands, unfortunely, sometimes goes with diabetes. The numbness in the torso I have never heard of it being a diabetic symptom.

With your weight and family history you may well be a type 2 diabetic. I'm not a medical person though, I just know a lot of diabetics.

I want to offer you a big ole hug because waiting for test results is scary.

Hi Dina,

Welcome to the board. I am sorry you are having to wait for your answer but don't drive yourself crazy with worry. Soon enough you will have an answer. Please tell us what your lab work shows and don't just accept "its normal" for an answer. If it concerns diabetes we can explain to you what the lab results mean.

There is a corralation between diabetes and MS. So do some research on it. I can't really explain it to you.

Sorry I can't be more helpful and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.
