Julie,

There is not a lot I can tell you. But here is what I know: C-Peptide is secreated by the beta cells with insulin. Measuring this will tell you if the person is still able to make insulin. The normal levels are 0.70 to 1.89. In type 1 diabetes the diabetic initially maintains some ability to secrete insulin and c-peptide. Within a few years the beta cells are completely exhausted and become incapable of secreting c-peptide and insulin.

Cortisol levels are measured to determine adernal gland functioning. I couldn't find out what the normal levels are. Cortisol has an effect on how you utilize insulin.

There is another test that the doctor may have run and that is called GAD. This would show if you have developed antibodies to your insulin. Once again this is used to determine if the person has type 1 diabetes.

So I am sorry I can't give you more information. We are just going to have to wait until you see the doctor and he explains the results to you. Please don't worry yourself to death while you are waiting for this visit.

A gentle hug,

Mary Frances
