Hi Birdlover.

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

No, you can't download a diabetic diet because there isn't such a thing anymore. The diabetic diet has been liberalized to the point that there isn't much of anything that you can't eat as a diabetic. It is how much and when you eat things which effect your blood sugar. So what you really need is a good diabetic cookbook which has a listing of the amount of carbs, etc in foods so that you can figure out how much of your favorite foods to eat. I have several diabetic cookbooks that I really like and a new one which was given to me about two months ago. If you look in the recipe folder on this board you will find recipes from it. The name of the cookbook is The New Family Cookbook for People with Diabetes. You can get it from the American Diabetes Association or with the ISBN you can get any bookseller to order it for you. Here is the ISBN 0-684-82550-7.

The suggestion that I made for you about the number of carbs per meal should hold you until you are able to see the dietitian and get a meal plan developed for yourself. You do need to check your blood sugar more frequently because we all react differently to foods.

Sorry, I can't be more helpful,

Mary Frances
