Hi, I joined a few days ago, finally have a chance to write a bit about myself. You can call me Jojo, I dont mind, its a nickname from my brothers when we were kids, I was Jojo the Mutt, we had Ricky the Rat and Matty the Muskrat, at least we thought we were cool, I dont know I think I was like 4 or 5, but it stuck. I'm 31 now, the youngest of 5, no one else has had long term conditions like me, my 3 brothers are real healthy, my older sister has allergies and is over weight, we havent spoke for 5 years so i dont know if anything has devloped, but shes another story. Mom and dad both passed away, both from strokes. Mom 62 Dad 64. But on a good note, Im married and have 2 beautiful children, both boys, Dylan is 4, and Tyler will be 2 the end of October. My husband Joe is a hard working constructon company owner, and I mean he works hard. i have been cursed with type 1 for 9 years now, Im on Lantus and Humaolg, Lantus at night, and Humaolg sometimes 7 times a day, working my way to the pump, i waiting for insurance approval, probaly 2 more months. I do what I can to take care of myself diabetes wise, i have psorasis also, I dont always remember the lotion, but nothing will go blind or be amputated from dry itchy skin, diabetes is pretty important.Everyday I read something new about my diabetes, I dont spend too much time in front of the pc, but when I do its usually about diabetes. I hope to be a member here for a while, learning from all of you and hopefully, teaching or guiding some of you.
Sorry about the long intro, any questions feel free to ask.

Hi Jojo,
Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical care from a health care practitioner of your choice.
I hope your okay for a pump comes through real soon. You certainly are giving yourself a lot os shots per day. Between the shots and the testing, on some days you must feel like a pincushion. But you have two wonderful reasons to take the best care of yourself that you can. You also have two wonderful reasons to teach them to eat properly and to exercise and keep their weight as close to normal as possible.
I am also on Lantus but I am not a candidate for a pump because I still make some insulin. What has your A1C been running? Does your insurance company have the rule that your diabetes must be out of control before they will consider you for a pump. I certainly hope not.
Take care and I look forward to seeing you around the board.
Mary Frances
