Inhaled insulin trial

I went to see my endocrinologist yesterday (he says I'm perfect: A1C is 6.2, kidneys and thyroid are fine, no signs of complications) and he asked me if I'd like to take part in a study of inhaled insulin for people with lung disease (I have asthma as well as diabetes.) I immediately said I would; it would mean three fewer injections a day. The inhaled insulin would replace my NovoRapid injections for the period of the trial. He's already done a study on people with normal lungs, and now he wants to see how people with diseased lungs handle inhaled insulin. He wants to find out if it might not work as well for people whose lungs are damaged, and he also wants to make sure it won't make lung disease worse.
Has anyone here tried inhaled insulin?

We have been trying for years to develop an inhaled insulin. It has been a vexing problem. It certainly would make life easier for many of us on insulin. I haven't heard anything about this current trial. But I have been in many trials and infact was just in a trial for Lantus insulin. One of the things which happens in trials is that you are assisgned to a certified diabetic educator and you receive really close follow up. I have always found that I have learned alot when I am in one of these trials. But I have also learned a lot about trials themselves and I won't be in a primary or secondary level trial. I will be in a 3 or 4th level trial because usally by this time they have worked out the doseage and all the known side effects. So find out what level of trial this and then base your judgement on that.
Good Luck,
