What's the rule on diet soda?

I find that it occassionally satiates my sweet craving.. but I feel awful about the sweeteners and chemicals. One I'm nursing, and two I'm ttc... so that's not good.

Any ideas? Alternatives? Caffinated sweet sugar free drinks??

It was recommended to me to eliminate caffeine and aspartame while we TTC and during my pregnancy. I have also seen where research was done on the effects of caffeine on diabetics and they showed that caffeine made sugar levels more unstable.

My best advice would be to ask your OB/Gyn what they think about it.

I have not even looked at the Pepsi Edge but I believe it is still sweetened with sugar.

When I was TTC I did not drink any diet sodas at all. I found at Wal-Mart they have a great water that is flavored with fruit that is carbonated while decaffeinated and sugar free. I found I had certain flavors I liked better than others, but also that it did not affect me at all. I even would have one when I was breastfeeding my youngest son and found them to be very refreshing, but also a big change from drinking plain old water all the time. Now granted I did not drink lots of them in a day just would have maybe 2 at the most as my treat.

I am currently expecting our third child and I still drink one every other day as my treat and have found that they do not affect fertility or pregnancy at all. I do hope this helps you out some and that you do get your dream to come true of having another child very soon. I am sending you all the "baby" vibes I can right to you in hopes of it helping you achieve your dream. Take care and do let us all know how your doing. Have a terrific day!

Papsi Edge and Coke's C2 are both actually part sugar, part Splenda, and part one other artificial sweetener.

Still, there are a LOT of other non-caffinated pop's out there.

Please tune in later for a new signature. :)

I, personally would stay away from diet drinks especially because you are pregnant. I am a nurse and have heard of several cases of aspartame poisoning. Just last week, there was a $350 million dollar lwasuit filed against the makers of Aspartame. If I was you, I would stick to water or use Stevia, which is an herb that tastes sweet. It is a popular sweetener in Europe. I like it a lot but it can be a little bitter if you add too much. I hope that this helps!

I use decaf Pepsi which is 0 in carbs, too. However, I use it sparingly. Also use Low carb lemonade which is 2 carbs per can. Try not to drink too much soda.

My hugs for you and the baby.
