Avandamet and Weight gain

I've a question/rant.
Ok, back in May when I stepped into my dr's office for the first time, and they weighed me for the first time, I was at 150lbs. Which was a little much for me, because I was on the tale end of my period. Doc diagnosed me with diabetes, gave me an Avandamet prescription and sent me on my way.
The next week I went back. One week on Avandamet and I went from 150 to 160lbs. I stopped drinking soda - and when I do I only have diet. I eat half as much as I used to. I eat different things than I used to! And still, every time I've been to the doc, its been 160.
True, i don't exercise like I should. But still, with all the calories I've cut, I should have at least gone back to my 150 and I haven't. I've waved goodbye to most of my clothes, and the ones I can still wear are very tight where they used to be big.
The strangest thing... I usually gain right around my waist-line, but now its in the zipper area, lower tummy. My legs a little. My hips used to be bony, now I can barely even find them. My bra size hasn't changed and I can still see ribs. My arms are the same. My rings are a trifle snug, but they still fit well.
I'm very seriously considering asking him to switch me to insulin if I can't fix this weight thing. I'm vain and my wedding is in 5 days. There's nothing I can do for that (though I'm trying!!)
Any advice at all? Even anyone dealing with the same thing?

I can relate to the frustration of gaining weight. It happened to me when I started insulin. It's possible insulin will help you regulate your blood sugars, but many people gain weight on insulin, too. You should talk to your doctor about the weight gain. I'm not sure what your medication is prescribed for, but I wouldn't count on insulin helping you lose weight. For me, I gained 9 pounds the first month after starting insulin and then another 4-5. It is a combination of my blood sugars being in better control (thus the food I eat is getting to my body instead of being flushed out...) and also probably eating too much. I read a statistics that stated that people who use insulin are typically 10 pounds above those who don't.
I'm not a doctor, so this issue should be discussed with your physician.
Good luck with your upcoming wedding.

Ok.. Well, I know that while metformin can help you lose weight, Avandia can make you gain.

I can totally relate to the weight gain. I've gained over 60 lbs in the last year
and the only thing my dr told me was that I was depressed. After many vists to many
Drs I finally got lucky and had an endo test my fasting insulin level, which she said was very high (130 something). She seems to think the elevated insulin level is what caused
me to gain. She suggested that I try low carb for 3 months to see if I lose anything, if
not she said she will give me glucophage or metformin, because they help you to lose weight. So, you might want to check with your Dr about the metformin.
Good luck with the wedding!

Thanks for the wedding wishes.
I know my insulin levels are normal.

of this weight off!
I never really had a weight problem before, I gained lots when I was pregnant (both times)but was able to lose it all within a year with not too much effort. I was down to about 150 which for me was a size 10 and I was pretty happy with that. Then in a year, I went from that to almost 230 and a size 18/20. But the Dr's couldn't tell me why, they just seemed to think that I was depressed! Well duh, if I was depressed it was because of all the weight I gained! They never even acted like the weight was an issue! I kept telling them that I wasn't doing anything different, I wasn't excercising quite as much as before but it wasn't enough of a difference to gain that kind of weight. I even tried dieting and doing the things that I did to lose the baby weight and nothing happened! Now I am at the point where if I watch my diet and excercise, I won't gain....but its impossible to lose! It is so frustrating! Enough about me, my point was to let you know that you are not alone in this weight thing! Maybe the new Dr will be able to help you out. I had to see about 5 before I got any answers at all!
Take care!

Yeah I am pretty sporadic over here too.
I'm hoping it will work.
I hate fasting, too.
