Avandamet and Weight gain

I've a question/rant.
Ok, back in May when I stepped into my dr's office for the first time, and they weighed me for the first time, I was at 150lbs. Which was a little much for me, because I was on the tale end of my period. Doc diagnosed me with diabetes, gave me an Avandamet prescription and sent me on my way.
The next week I went back. One week on Avandamet and I went from 150 to 160lbs. I stopped drinking soda - and when I do I only have diet. I eat half as much as I used to. I eat different things than I used to! And still, every time I've been to the doc, its been 160.
True, i don't exercise like I should. But still, with all the calories I've cut, I should have at least gone back to my 150 and I haven't. I've waved goodbye to most of my clothes, and the ones I can still wear are very tight where they used to be big.
The strangest thing... I usually gain right around my waist-line, but now its in the zipper area, lower tummy. My legs a little. My hips used to be bony, now I can barely even find them. My bra size hasn't changed and I can still see ribs. My arms are the same. My rings are a trifle snug, but they still fit well.
I'm very seriously considering asking him to switch me to insulin if I can't fix this weight thing. I'm vain and my wedding is in 5 days. There's nothing I can do for that (though I'm trying!!)
Any advice at all? Even anyone dealing with the same thing?

I hope you have/had a wonderful wedding- I looked at your details, and it sounds wonderful. Love the colors- my house is painted periwinkle blue inside...it is so peaceful and beautiful! Let us know about how it went! I also looked at the pictures of your Belle- I was SO surprised because my daughter's cat looks just like her! Except my daughter got hers when she was so small dd had to feed her every two hours by bottle for more than a month. dd's kitty doesn't hsve a tail. We can't decide if she had a tail and lost it or was born without one. MH
