I want a One Touch Ultra Smart Meter. Do you think Insurance would cover one?

They sound real neat were you could keep track of everything. Does anyone have

one? If you do is it a good tool to keep your sugar under control or just a pain

to even try using?

I have a OneTouch Ultra, I really want the OneTouch Ultra Smart. I like the meter I have now, it's easy to use. I have heard of some meters that are not very user friendly. I don't see why insurance wouldn't cover it.

Call your insurance company to find out what meters they cover along with test strips since each company has their own choices picked out as to what ones they do cover. That is the best way to know what you can get with the help of your insurance. I am sorry I cannot be of more help to you with your question, but I have no experience with the that particular meter. I am sure somebody who does use it will be able to help with your question. Take care and do have a great day!

Hi there -

I got my UltraSmart a few months ago due to my insurance changing billing policies regarding the strips for the monitor I was using.

I posted once and it never showed up. I may of posted under a different thread.

lol. Thank you I called the insurance company I can get one no charge but I will need

to go to another class Diabetic 101 which is ok. I have to pay a low monthly fee

for the strips were I get the others free but I think this one will help me keep

track of everything. I hope that it keeps time of when I test my sugar.

Thanks for your help.

Gabby,

I absolutely agree with you about the lancing devise. The one from Accu-Chek is so much nicer. Supposedly they are going to come out with another devise. I haven't seen it yet but that is what they told back in April. I'll let you when I hear something.

COOL!

The lancer is actually why I stopped using the Ultra in the first place, the one for the Freestyle is so much better!

I still have one in a plastic bag from Walgreen's and have two coupons to get $$ off. I've been using the One Touch Ultra since I was dx in January 2004. I'm kind of a gadget person and really want to to start using the computerized one. Paid almost $80 for it. With the coupons it'll end up about $25, I think. Don't know what's stopping me.

I truly think some insurance coupanies would deny it since there are simpler ones available, but what do I know.

I'd have to give up my current meter to get it. I'm back forth. In fact, I haven't even asked my insurance company if they'd pay for it. I've had so many problems with them, I'm gun-shy. Am currently awaiting an answer about my Z-coil shoes to help relieve the leg & hip pain from my avascular necrosis. The future doesn't look very promising. To think I pay almost $700 a month for the insurance! ...not much luck except they helped me get the Bextra for osteoarthritis which I now find is on the list along with Celexa for being pulled. I just can't win for losing!

Haven't read the other responses yet. Hopefully they'll help you.

I trust the trip was fabulous!

Walgreen's said the test strips for the One Touch Ultra and the Smart were the same ones. Guess I didn't tell you I bought the Ultra Smart, but it's still in the plastic bag from Walgreen's. Eventho I have coupons to decrease the price, I don't know if I deserve such a meter.

Am feeling somewhat down. Everytime I turn around it's another ailment that faces me.

My endocrinologist has sent me to a gastroenteroloist regarding my high alk phos. I've had a reading around 140 since I had my hysterectomy 14 years ago. I had an ultrasound of my belly in 2000 which showed a fatty liver. So, the end of this week, I go back for another one. Am concerned about the fasting before the test, though. Am completely NPO after midnight and my test isn't until 8:30AM. Am afraid I'll go into hygoglycemia before they do the test. I'm taking a baby bottle of OJ (4oz) with me plus my meter just in case. Can't even drink water before the test. I'm cranky now. Imagine how I'll be if they make me wait too long!

He mentioned NASH. Can't remember what it stands for...but it's related to hepititis. I just can't catch a break, huh? Funny, the alk phos at the endocrinologist's was 110 in mid August which was well within their measurements. However, when I had it redone last week along with some other labs it was 175 at a different lab. Heck, I don't know who to believe! I'm still puzzled why the endocrinologist won't let me use the same lab I've been using for years (Sonora)for the basic tests and insists on his lab. However, when they did a fractionated alk phos it had to be sent to Sonora!

Well, enough of this...I'm still working on my insurance company's paying for the Z-coil shoes to relieve the hip and left knee problems from the avascular necrosis of the hip.

I feel like a limping injury from the failure of modern medicine to assist me.

Thanks for hanging in with me in the litany.

Gabby~

I thought with the rebate you had to return your Ultra One Touch. Am I incorrect?

Since using the Ultra Smart, how are you doing controling the measurements? Does it help or not? My CDE wanted to plug my One touch into her computer to see how I'd been doing last week, but I'd forgotten it. Don't see her until December. Have been doing fairly well, but sometimes, for no reason, I get a high reading.

Glad to get your input.
