I have a question?

I will start from the begining......I recently started iching bad in my vaginal area, Then low and behold I got a boil on my breast, then on my stomach, this one popped up outta no where and i have been in pain, ouch, so last nite my boyfriend said lets check your sugar(hes a diabetic and has a glucose machine) so we check it last nite 2 times and hour apart First check my sugar was 435, second was 388, well he tells me to wait till first thing in the morning to check it, so when i checked it this morn, it was 256, I called my doc immeditly they got me in today, he went the the whole question process, and i answered yes to all if not most of the questions that you would ask a person with symptons of diabetes, you no, blurred vision, tiredness, dry mouth etc.... Diabetes runs in my family, and actually my dad who didnt really take care of himself died from it, he still ate whatever and whenever he wanted, he was supposed to shoot 60 units of insulin, but mainly only did it if his sugar was way to high, anyways my question is.......why is my doctor waiting for my blood work to come back, he said a week, instead of perscribing something right away to bring my sugar down????? Isnt this dangerous??? I would appreciate any feedback, and also, did anyone come down with the symptons if not worse that I did before they got diagnosed????

Hi and welcome to the board,
I am sitting here with my mouth wide open! I am shocked that your doctor didn't start you on insulin today. Especially after he moved to get you into the office today. At the very least he should have started you on diabetic eating and blood sugar testing. If you had lab work run today, why don't you call tomorrow and see if they have the results yet. Be a little pushy but nice. You really need to be started on some kind of therapy.
Please let us know what is happening with your tests, etc. We are here to help in any way we can.
I agree with Mary Frances to very nicely push for results--ASAP. Don't be afraid to ask questions about diabetes care and to insist on the best care possible.
I also discoverd I had diabetes because of a persistant yeast infection--itching, etc. that would NOT go away. It's amazing how our bodies communicate to us and how we finally are able to listen. Initially, I was told to wait to get me in to see a diabetes specialist, and my father (who is a doctor) called my primary doctor and HMO and insisted that I get to see someone immediately.
Diabetes can be overwhelming, but you're lucky you have a boyfriend who may be able to help you a bit. Also, check back on the board. Let us know what you find out. Good luck.
