Diabetes & Pregnancy Question

Hello,

Kinda new here, it's been a while. I am 35 (will be 36 in 3 weeks) and Type 1 for 15 yrs. I just got married 2 months ago to the love of my life. We want to have a child but are not ready yet and were planning to wait until next year to start trying. I am aware of all of the risks, special issues, etc. with my diabetes and having a baby. However, I've begun to do more reading and research on the subject so I know what to do when the time comes that we want to start trying.

My question is - I am feeling a little yucky the past week - extreme nauseau, tired, bloated, constipated, etc. and my period is just a couple days late, so not panicking yet. I know there's a chance I could be pregnant but most likely I am not but I am going through all of the "what if's" right now. Of course I'd be happy but I am worried that because I am not planning it, something will go wrong. Meaning that normally my blood sugars are in tight control - my AC1 test a month ago was 5.7% but the past week or so, my sugars have been erratic and higher than normal for me, which isn't too high but mornings have been in the 120s when normally I am around 70-80. And after meals have been a bit higher. If, if I was pregnant would having higher blood sugars this early affect my baby? I am hoping this is just a virus causing the high sugars and the sick feelings, but I've never felt this way before and something feels different. I am giving it til next week to do a pg test if I still don't get my period. Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated. I know this sounds kind crazy but it's the worry-wart in me.

Thanks

Cristi

Hi. I had Gestational w/ my first & then type 2 with my second. Having a baby certainly does make it more difficult to keep the sugars under control. I would go get a pg test jsut to be sure since you're already late. w/ an A1C at 5.7 you're at a great position to start with & be pregnant. If you can keep your sugars well controlled there shouldnt be any extra problems for the most part. I pop in here every so often, i hope to see an update if you are pg or not!
