Hi.....My name is Jenn. I have been a diabetic for 4 years now. it started as gestational diabetes, i was on insulin, and has just hung around. I could not control it with diet or meds so I am now on insulin. This is not working well either, so the docs and I are considering the pump. I do not know much about the pump and was wondering if anyone has one that could give me there opinion. I have been in the hospital ER two time lately with sugars of 480 and 510, I could not even tell the 911 operator my name or my address, all I could say was I need help, I am a diabetic. Thanks for your help. I just do not know where to turn. Thanks

Jenn

Welcome to this board all the ladies on this site will give you great info and help when ever they can. I can tell you from my husbands diabetic that he to had a problem with the insulin not controlling his sugar they had him up to 70 units and he was still in the 300 to 400.They found out he was insulin resistant and added more meds to his Dailey insulin. He was going to ask for the pump as well but our endo doc said no way they were really against it. They said lets try these other meds first and see he was already on a lot but they just adjusted and changed a couple. It worked out great for him, Try to look into this as well as an opthion. Im sorry to hear that you have been in the hospital for such highs. This may be a good idea but you need to tape yourself saying your name address ECT and that you’re a diabetic on a tape recorder. So next time and I hope there will not be a next time you can call 911 and just hit play. After they have all your important info you can than talk to them at least they will know who you are and what the problem is, Even if you think your at the point of passing out you can quickly hit play and you will know that help is on the way. Good luck and I hope you can get some answers

Jenn~

I think Julie's suggestion about the recording is good. Do you wear an ID bracelet?

I sure would, if I were you. Since you're on insulin, I think you should get one that says you're on insulin so the paramedics don't give you something you sure don't need.

My endocrinologist has a MA who's been on the pump for at least 10 years. We have one member here that's on the pump.

You'll get lots of good info here. I'm so glad you came. Visit often!!!

If you want some links, let me know.

Hi Jenn,

My name is Mary Frances and I am the other community leader for this board. The reason I said this is that Denise will be answering you also and she is the one with the insulin pump.

I can tell you that you are a candidate for a pump. But I can't tell you if the pump will really help you that much. Your physician will have to do that. I am curious about your insulin regieme and also curious whether you are a late developing type 1 diabetic.

We are here to answer your questions and to offer support and encouragement. So please join our conversation.

A welcoming hug,
