Hi guys! I saw on the post on here someone mentioned diabetes and thyroid! :-) Which is why I am here. Trying to get info.
I am hyperthyroid. I am 27. Had a baby 8 mos ago. I have strong family history of diabetes. I had gestational diabetes, took insulin for it. My sugar after meals is fine (usually below 120 once 168) my fasting sugars aren't super high... 93, 98, 100, 102, 111, 113, 118, 117 ,120. But I know it's getting closer. The first few weeks after the baby was born I was in the 80's fasting. Each week it got higher and higher.
Does anyone know what this could mean? Is it just my thyroid messing everything up or is it seperate? I am not currently taking any antithyroid meds. Just beta blockers. I am getting surgery to remove my thyroid.
I really dont want to ask my endo. Just a pain - I dont really like him, but thats a whole 'nother story!
I guess any info someone could give me would be helpful. I know with my gestational diabetes that my fasting morning sugar was always the highest.
Thanks everyone.
April

Hi April,
Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic.
Thyroid disorders occur more frequently in diabetics, especially type 1 diabetics. Many thyroid disorders are auto-immune and so is type 1 diabetes.
Have you been able to lose your "baby weight" gain? You really do need to talk to your endo because it looks like you might becoming at least a pre-diabetic if not an early type 2 diabetic. Are you able to exercise? I know it is hard with children but the new program of walking 10,000 steps per day might be achievable for you.
I look forward to chatting with you more,
Mary Frances

Hi thanks for the response.
Do you know why sugar is high in the morning, but after meals it's normal? I would think it would be high all of the time if it was true diabetes.
