3 weeks since surgery...........

Tomorow will be 3 weeks since my surgery.  The dr had hoped to do it with the scopes but after trying for 2 hours he had to give up and make an incision.  It seems the tumor was too large.....  I can not tell you how happy I was to get rid of the staples!!!  What an annoyance.  I am doing really good.  I am still tired easily!!!

One thing that surprised me through this experience was about my glucose.  I saw my regular dr for the pre-op.  I asked him point blank if I am diabetic (no one has ever used that word with me.....) I also asked if I needed to tell them at the hospital I was.  He said he would take care of it and put down I have a history of elevated glucose levels.  Ok..............  now the day of the surgery and I am in the pre-op and they are asking me questions..... one was if I was diabetic.  I hesitated and then explained that the dr had put that on the sheet I had brought with me.  They asked if I was on meds.  I said no.  They told me that if you are not on meds they dont concider you diabetic.  I was in the hospital for 3 days.  They did not monitor my glucose...  I asked Thursday about that....  they had taken blood about 5:30 am and the nurse did come back later and said they had checked it then.  That was the only time.  My food, was not sugar free either.  When I got home I took my glucose before I ate supper.  It was 150.  Not bad but I was disappointed it was that high.  That was only 3 days after the surgery.  My morning glucose was between 100 and 110 for a week.  Not bad concidering but I had been in the 80's for the past 2 months.  In spite of the fact I have been eating more carbs it is going down,  back in the 80's and 90s (mostly 90's) .

I am soooo glad that it is over!!!  I will be even glader when I can do more!

I am so happy to hear that you that your doing so very well. Your blood sugars are doing great, but of course you know that. Sorry that they had to make an incision though, because I know how very annoying staples can be since I have had my share of them and find them to be super annoying. Wow, what a way to find out your not diabetic

Cheryl,

That is a bunch of nonsense and you know it. State of the art care demands that you follow the patient's blood sugar because it allows the patient to go home sooner and
