Hi Mary-Francis and everyone,

I haven't been here in a long time. I'm Paul C. and active on the Alcohol Problem and AA boards. I'm a Type 2 diabetic, have been for twenty years or so. Also, a recovering alcoholic with 36 years sobriety and love trying to help others seeking recovery. I'm 72 now and doing remarkably well. I survived a benign brain tumor, four years ago and prostate cancer two years ago and both are gone. Hopefully forever. Diabetes doesn't go away though does it? However, by being careful getting by exercise, handling stress and being helped by medication (glucophage) and watching what I eat my last hemoglobin A1C was 6.6% and has been as low as 5.7%, so that's pretty good I understand. I have some scars and wrinkles now and I earned everyone of them. I'm forever grateful and will remember that on Thanksgiving day as we gather together with love for all. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Please be safe,

Paul C.

Hi Paul,

A Happy Thanksgiving to you also! I was wondering the other day about you and some others that I haven't seen around here for a while. So I a am really glad to read your message and to learn that you are doing so well.

No, unfortuantely diabetes doesn't go away and it doesn't get better either. We just have to keep it under control which it sounds like you are doing. Congratulations on the good job you are doing.

I do hope that you can come and visit us more often. We don't have too many gentleman around here now and none that I know of from New York right now! So you have a special voice that we love to hear from.

Cheers,

Mary Frances

Hi Paul! Welcome back! Happy Thanksgiving..you are so right, we have so much to be thankful and grateful for in our lives. Our church had one of our church council's Bishops as a visiting guest yesterday and his words really made everyone have wide eyes in disbelief of what little things we should truly be grateful for. He is from Africa and said that we are so lucky to have so many choices, and that we are blessed and that we should all be thankful for it. He said upon his first trip to the US, he was welcomed into someone's home and offered a drink. He said yes, and then was given the choice between Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sprite or milk. He was amazed at the choices and chose milk. He was then asked if he wanted skim or 2%. He said if he were to welcome us into his home, all he would have to offer us is water...and he said then the most common response from American's is "Is it clean?" He said the typical responsefrom him

HI Angie,

And I think water is the best choice of all. Good clean spring water, hopefully. Have a very nice Thanksgiving and thanks for sharing such a nice story.

Be safe,

Paul
