I am new at this. I just got my blood glucose monitor on Friday. Because my diabetes is not bad ( no meds needed ) my dr said just to test once or twice every other day, but maybe before and 2hrs after meals for the first few days to get used to it. I was told I was looking for a range between 3.5 and 8. It hasn't gone over 8 so far. But what I don't understand is how it can be lower after a meal than before a meal. This has happened twice. The first time was when my morning FBG was 6.2 and then 2 hrs after brekky it was 5.1. The second time was at night....6.2 before dinner and 5.7 2hrs after. Does this make sense? From my limited knowledge I think the levels are good???? I could call my dr, but I thought I would try here first.
Thanks,
Lisa.

HI Lisa,
I would like to help but I don't understand the numbers your meter is giving you. It must be new technology, perhaps giving a hemaglobin count expressed as 5.7 or 6.0 etc. as
in the Ha1c test. My Accu-chek gives a blood sugar count not a percentage like 94 or 142 etc. I'm sure Mary-Francis knows. Can you tell me the kind of meter you have?

Thanks Paul......I am in Australia so to convert my numbeers to what you're used to working with I believe you need to multiply by 18.
Lisa.
Yes, Lisa it makes sense. Although when it was 8 after eating it was a little high. Now to do a little math. Suddenly we have three new people who use the system present in the rest of the world except the good old USA. When you see the USA numbers divide by
Hi Mary Frances. Thanks for your reply.I clearly have a lot to learn! My dr referred me to the International Diabetes Institute where they have specialists ( endocrinologists and opthalmologists), educators and dieticians and a shop for supplies. I saw the endo a couple of weeks ago and he checked me over, looked at my test results and said things were going ok and he'd see me in Feb.I have a dietician's appt on the 17th Dec and I am hopeful that things will become much clearer after that.
I will remember to multiply and divide by 21.....I thought it was 18 oops!
Thanks as always for your help!
Lisa.
