This is for those with Neuropathy!

I have neuropathy, but have never had any real problems with it. I how ever have had a numbing spot down the left side of my left leg from my thigh to my knee that my doctor thought was caused by my daughter being on a nerve when I was pregnant with her and it would go away after having her. Well, she was born and I still had this problem in which my doctor thought that I needed to give it some time to get back to normal. It will be 8 weeks on Monday since having my daughter and I still have this numb spot down my left leg. Is this part of neuropathy even with great blood sugar control? I am worried it might be a blood clot in the leg causing it, but I am told if it were I would have swelling that is very noticeable and I have no swelling that I can tell. I'm only asking since I want to know if I should make another appointment with my Endocrinologist to get checked again or if I am worried about nothing at all with it just being something that happens to some with Neuropathy. I very much appreciate any help that can be offered to me on this, because this is something I have never experienced before that was not caused by an injury until now. Do take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I do not have neuropathy, so I can not tell you how that should feel, but I do know some things that might help you mentally until a Dr. sees you.

Thank you for letting me know and I don't mind the comparison to animals at all. How ever I gave birth via cesarean section so I just don't think this is my case at all, but I might be wrong since my daughter was stuck pretty far down there to the point they had to make my incision even longer do to that and that might have caused some bruising although I think it would be gone by now with it going on 8 weeks come Monday. Oh well, I am sure Mary Frances will let us both know her thoughts on this and have the answers I am so looking for. Take care and do enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Keep in mind that all peripheral neuropathy is not due to diabetes. Among other possibilities there is "Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy"...which translates to "We haven't got the slightest clue what causes it". Since the symptoms can be the same, it's probably best to see a neurologist, who may do some (unpleasant) nerve conduction studies to diffrentiate. There isn't much that can be done, but at least it's reassuring to know that it wasn't caused by your diabetes!

Hi, I'm new here, was just floating around on the boards today, and decided to check this out. I've been diabetic, insulin dependent for 25 years, since I was 10. I wear an insulin pump (7 years and still going) since the birth of my DS.

I live near the Joslin Diabetes Clinic, and have gone there for nearly 2o years. Here is what I think you have:

Femoral neuropathy -- is painful sensory neuropathy that centers in the thigh muscles. It can be asymmetric or symmetric.

It was on their website, joslin.org. Check it out. It's very helpful! Good Luck.

Denise,

I think you have some nerve pressure caused by your pregnancy and not your diabetic neuropathy. It is most likely L2-3 or L3-4 because these nerves swing around from your back and down your thigh and eventually on to your toes. But I do agree that if it continues you need to see a neurologist. There really isn't much that can be done and so tincture of time will need to heal your nerves. But if it continues to bother you do see someone and get a definitive answer.

I bet your boys are really excited about Christmas this year. I bought

Thank you for that information. It is always nice to meet another who has been a diabetic for a while as I have been diabetic since I was 6 and on a pump for over 7 years now.

Thank you Mary Frances for the information. I think you just might be right about that, but I am thinking of making an appointment just to make sure it isn't anything else to be on the safer side since you just never know. At least I do knot that it can't be my neuropathy since my blood sugars have been super great and everything I have read says if your keep blood sugars in normal range it should not cause any problems and I have done just that.

Yes, my boys are super excited about Christmas already and Avery keeps asking us "when is Santa coming", which we tell him in just a few more days. LOL He is full of questons these days and can talk up a storm, which he has gotten great at telling his own stories. He loves to make up stories to tell his little brother and sister, which I just adore so very much. All is going great with the boys and they are doing so good with having a new baby sister, which just amazes me
