nausea - glucophage?

Does anyone else have an issue with nausea? I'm queasy every time I eat. It's been bad enough that there have been times I've made myself throw up for relief. (NO - I'm NOT bulimic.)
You'd think I'd be adjusted to the glucophage by now. Could it be something else? And no, I'm not PG, either. ;-)

I would vote for the glucophage causing your nausea. Make sure yout ake the glucophage when you have a full tummy. In about two weeks after starting it suddenly gets better. So hang in there if you can. Do be aware that some people can't take it because they never stop the nausea. I thought I wasn't going to make it but the nausea magicly stopped. Here's hoping that it does for you also.

Thanks Wende and Mary Francis -
I am on the XR and have been for about six months. Looks like I may be one of those that will just always be nauseous.
Great.
I must be one of the luckier ones - I'm on the glucophage XR and I've never had a problem since day one but my coworker was always sick between nausea and diarrhea from it.
I found that if I eat about 1/2 of my meal and then take my Glucophage, it doesn't seem to make me as nauseous.

Do you take it After your meal? I know the pharmacist told me to take it before, but I find that I do better taking the meds after my meal. I find that I still get the nausea and diarrhea, but I like what it does for my blood sugar so I bare with the side effects. Good luck! MH
Ps... maybe keep a food diary for a couple of weeks to see if it is every meal or only after certain meals...mine is worse about two hours after breakfast, especially if I don't have any protein...it is the worst after cereal. MH
I take Glucophage-XR and do get gassy about 4-5 hours after taking it...about bedtime, I guess.
Metformin (the generic) really makes me ill...stomachaches, nausea, dizziness, and a general feeling of malaise.
Good luck
There really isn't anything else on the market that works the way this medication does and so there isn't anything to change to. That having been said, it is amazing that the XR preparation doesn't seem to have the same complaints as the straight medication has. Beats me as to why this would be happening. So I suggest that anyone who can't tolerate the nausea to ask for thei physician to change them to the Glucophage XR.
Hope all is going well with you.
