I am really wanting to know if anyone here has ever take Fenugreek and cinnamon to control your diabetes? It seems to really work for me. My numbers stay between 95 to 140. What do most of you believe the normal blood sugar numbers are? I am new to all this. Thanx for your help!

I use cinnamon, and know that Fenugreek is supposed to help, but don't know any way to use it.

We have a GNC in this town; it is out of the way for me to go, but I will look the next time I am over there for the Fenugreek.

Hi,

I have used Fenugreek but I heard there were problems with it and so I stopped. This was many years ago.

Here is what I found in the Mobsy's Handbook of Herbs and Natural Supplements.

For diabetes the dose is 50g/day of defatted fenugreek powder which is available in capsules, powder and extract.

Here is the warning:

"Because of the rapid rate at which this herb moves through the bowel and costs the gastrointestinal tract, fenugreek may cause reduced absorption of all medications used concurrently."

There is a possible increased risk of bleeding when fenugreek is used concurrently with anticoagulants. It can also cause premature labor and so it shouldn't be used by pregnant women. Until more research is available it shouldn't be used during lactation and not give it to children.

Fenugreek may decrease total cholesterol, blood glucose and LDL cholesterol. Because Fenugreek lowers blood sugar levels increased hypoglycemia is possible especially if use concurrently with antidiabetic medications.

As with all medications you need to let your diabetes doctor know that you are taking this as there can be interactions with other medications.

I am sorry again I apologize. My daughter and I did find a place about the Fenugreek and blood. And a lot applies to unstable diabetes and preganancy and things and taking it with other medication which I do not take yet. I am sorry again. Thanx for your help.

Suzie,

Don't worry about it. There is so much on the web that may or may not be correct.

I usually attend the annual diabetes conference put on by the Universary of California at Davis. Something came up this year and so I didn't go. But I was there last year and that is when I got this book. They are doing research on Herbs and natural substances. The problem that we have is often there is no standardized dosage and there are no double blind studies done. The other problem is that folks thing that they aren't medicine because they don't come with a prescription. And nothing could be further from the truth. Herbs and natural substances are not regulated the way medications are.

Here is the ISBN# for the Mobsy's Handbook. 0-323-02535-8. Any bookstore should be able to order it for you

My blood sugar levels are usually way higher than that and I need to get them under control. As far as I know, a normal BSL is 80-120 depending on when you last ate.
Can you give me more info on how you take these supplements (pill form??) and how much. I would love to see if this helps. Thank you.

I take Fenugreek at 610mg. per capsule and I take 2 in the morning around 11:00 and 2 in the sfternoon around 5 or 6:00. I also take cinnamon capsule 2 a day as it tates on the bottle. But definitly do your research and see if this is something you want to do. I love it. But it may not be for everyone.
