Losing my health insurance.

Ok, I have been diabetic, type 1, for 11 years. i am on the insulin pump and just got laid off from my job. my healthcare insurance ends at the end of the month and it was awesome. i didnt have to pay for my insuline, it was free on this health plan. anyway, ive been searching for a job, but even if i get one, i have to wait for health insurance pass the three month wait period. what do i do in the meantime. if i understand the law correctly, i have to be covered at all times in order to not be denied. i looked at cobra but i cant afford cobra. i dont know w2hat to do. i have enough insulin to last about 2 months. but im scared because if i lose coverage, i may not ever be able to get covered again.

The only thought I have is, call the person in charge of insurance with the company you just got laid off from.
I only know the rules in California, which is the state I live in. In California we have insurance that is available through the state for people who can't get insured because of a pre-exisiting health conditions. What I suggest to you is that you contact the department of insurance in your state and see what is offered for folks such as you. I know COBRA is expensive but you just might have to bite the bullet and pay for it so that you continue to be covered.
I do have one other suggestion which you can use as a fall back position and that is Medicaid. You may need to go this way. Look into it through your county welfare department. This is why it is available. You might have to meet a deductible but it would certainly be better than not having any care.
The final thing to remember is the many or most of the drug companies have a compassionate care program for people who can't afford their medication. You would
BTDT--twice in recent years before I ended up on disability--COBRA requirements are pretty much a joke unless you have another source of income, as the rates are usually astronomical.
Hi,
Thanks everyone for you assistance with perscriptions. the funny thing is I have enough insulin. When I got on this new insurance they gave me my insulin free. I switched to Novolog but had a previous prescription for Humalog. They filled both for free so I recieve 4 bottles a month but only use 2. I have about 10 bottles. that should last me foer about 2 or 3 months. My pump supplies are a 3 month supply and i get that refilled at the end of this month so I am not worried about my meds. I am mroe concerned about being denied for health insurance if i let my insurance lapse for a month or two while searching for a new job and getting thrugh the trial period. i dont think i will qualify for medicaid because i own my own house and my car is expensive (its paid off) but they qyualifyt those as assetts even though my monthly costs are low
