DPN relief at last

HI Mary Frances and Everyone,

A little over two weeks ago my Dr. prescribed Lyrica for me to try to make me more comfortable from the disabling itching caused by DPN. The prescription was a very low dose 25mg tablets, 3 times daily=75mg. Pfizer (the pharmacuetical company) recommended an opening dosage of twice that. But there is a caveat to that, caution for the elderly. That's me. I got significant relief nearly overnight. I was no longer disabled. I would estimate 75-80% better in three days. I have some residual patches, mostly intermittent of intense itching on my forearms, torso and sometimes my back. My legs are better. My Dr. increased by dosage to 50mg tablets, 3 times daily=150mg. I am tolerating Lyrica very well. I remain confident my new dosage will work for me giving even more relief. I was able to complete my 30 minute walk (about1.75miles) yesterday without a problem. Before I couldn't even do it.

Three cheers for our CL-Mary-Frances for briefing me on this newly FDA approved medicine for DPN (Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy).

Best Wishes,

Paul

Paul,

I am so glad you are so much better. I just saw where Lyrica has been approved for fibromyalagia which can also be debilitating.

I hope you enjoy your walks before the weather gets too hot.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

Well, I wanted perfection and sometimes life is not perfect. The new dosage of Lyria at 150mg daily is too much for for this ole codger. It made my feet puffy due to fluid etention. My cardiologist warned me that might happen and if it did not to worry about as long as I was feeling more comfortable. I don't want squishy feet and the results of the higher dosgage didn't seem any better than the low dosage. So whatever minor residual itching is left I can tolerate. The itching on my legs is 90-100% better so that's great. Lyrica is good medicine as far I am cocerned. My blood glucose is still under good control. I didn't expect this complication but I am not complaining.

Best wishes

Paul

Paul,

You didn't notice any ankle swelling with the lower dose? I hope not.

I know that vioxx is no longer on the market but I thought it was a wonderful drug when my ortho started me on it. Soon I couldn't figure out what was happening. I would get up in the morning with slim ankles and by afternoon my ankles were hanging over my shoes and I could barely walk. Needless to say we immediately stopped that drug and once again I didn't have adequate pain control for my back pain.

I am hoping that you can stay on the Lyrica long enough for the neuropathy to heal and that you can once again be pain and medication free.
