Carbs raising blood suger

Is there a guide out there that gives information on how much carbs and/or a certain food will raise your blood sugar?? For example...if my reading is 110 before I eat and I have 45 carbs in my meal...how high will my blood sugar rise..or how many points will it go up?? I was just curious as I seem to notice that certain foods seems to raise it more or less even if I stay within the 45 carbs. I am currently managing it with diet and exercise so this type of info would be helpful.
Any input that anyone has would help. Thanks, Rita

Hi Rita!
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for the input...I have noticed as I eat different foods, even though I stay within 45 carbs, there is a difference as to how much the blood sugar changes. I was hoping to find something that would let me know what is best...I will look into the glycemic index. I have varied the amount of carbs I eat and have found 45 is my limit.
How long, if I may ask, have you been keeping it under control with diet and exercise? I have been successful so far, I started in February, as I really want to avoid more medication if at all possible.

Hi and welcome to the board.
15 grams of carbs will raise your blood sugar 50 points. 1/2 cup of pasta will raise your blood sugar the same amount as 7 Lifesavers. What changes how much your blood sugar is raised is the amount of fats and proteins that you have with the carbs. Fats and protein don't raise your blood sugar and they slow your absorption of the carbs. The other thing which changes how you react to the carbs is fiber. Fiber is
Thanks for the info....Mary Frances, thank you for yours too, it was very interesting.
My A1C in February was 8.5....I just had blood work done because of medication I am on for my back and my blood sugar was 112 which the Dr said was high normal. ( I not sure what that blood sugar was..if it the same as when I test it or not) I wasn't really fasting for it, I was going to but forgot and had some coffee, so I don't really know how accurate it was.
I test in the morning and then once or twice more. I vary it, sometimes before I eat, sometimes after and sometimes after exercise. My averages are 108 before meals and 141 after. I'm still experimenting at times with how much I eat of fruits and veggies and how my sugar reacts after. The doctor says to be at 90-110 before meals and 120-140 after. I have been doing pretty well.
I had a procedure done on Monday for my back where they use radio frequency to burn the nerves. This is to alleviate some of my pain. I have noticed that my sugar is running a little higher since then..I wonder why that would effect it???
I know I feel so preoccupied with food...does that feeling ever lessen??? My mother was diagnosed with it 3 years before she died, but she was such a picky eater that fixing her food wasn't a challenge. Trying to get in the fruits and veggies and staying withing the 45 carbs I am finding to be hard. If I fix rice or potatoes for example, it then seems to really limit have much of anything else...anybody have any ideas???
Again, thank you everyone for the info!! Rita
Well, the procedure you had done on Monday...
