Any ideas why my blood sugar would rise overnight?? I took it before I went to bed and it was 94, I got up this morning and it was 116. This happened one other time but I wasn't feeling well. Anyone have any idea???

Good Morning,

It is called insulin resistance in a type 2 diabetic. About 4 am your body starts to get ready for the morning. And your liver gets busy changing fats into glucose. Your pancreas starts making insulin, often more than you need, but you aren't able to keep up with the amount of glucose because of being resistant to it. So the residual blood sugar is higher than when you went to bed.

Exercise is the best way to break down insulin resistance. And then we have meds: metformin, Actos and Avandia.

I hope this answers your question. Please ask more as we all learn all the time.

Have a great day,
