Sorry to hear about your sister's MIL!!!
Sister and her hubby get along best when he is out on the road driving truck BUT he is close to retirement age, so have always had that concern that she might decide to move in with me. She is extremely bossy and when you tell her no, she often just goes ahead and does it anyway. They both have nasty tempers at times.
I do have a good job, but when I had to move to where I am now, I had kept trailer in central WI for i think around 4 years when I was paying rent here and house payment and lot rent there. That had me so close to bankruptcy it wasnt funny and i am still trying to get my credit card way down. I am very happy its down as far as it is now but would have been nice to have been here a few years ago. Otherwise i would have loved to buy a house so I would at least not be concerned about having a dog cause any damage to a rental house. I like my location here, close to work and landlord had talked about me buying house. Pros and cons there, old house, very little storage, old house problems including furnace and other things. But I do bet if I wasnt renting and she wanted to move in, it would be impossible to stop her. In some ways it is much easier with us not in the same city, since she has less chance to boss me around.
It wasnt the 124 that bothered me it was the 2 fasting numbers, but since it went down to 124 that apparently helped. Since last night was the first night I looked at the infected toe as closely as I did last night, and finished the antibiotic I was a little afraid. Never had a toe that nasty. Of course never had to play around with many steroid type asthma meds, for very long either.
On the very good side the toe does NOT hurt at all(actually has not for a week and its healed enough to ditch these sandals and get back to the Y again!! Boy do I need that!!
We knew the MIL was slipping and way back at the last holiday dinner I was at, I remember her saying how exhausting she was feeling from the heart problems and being on oxygen. She had her moments but was a very nice, caring and religious lady. That family often invites many extra people to holiday dinners. It was a blessing she went so quickly instead of getting totally bedridden and miserable. She was still out at times. It also brought back sister and I losing both parents in barely a 3 month period and that was in 94!!!

Nancy,
It is probably up because you haven't been able to exercise like you normally do. So test carefully after you are able to get to the Y. If you still are having these readings you may need to have an A1C done and have a conversation with your doctor. Remember diabetes is a progressive disease and there is nothing you can do about that, except keep it at bay as long as possible.
Sounds like your place is too small for you and your sister and you are just going to have to put your foot down (make it the good one, please!) and say NO and stick by that. You really don't have to take your sister in if you don't want too. You deserve peace of mind as much as she does.
Please get well before the fall and the cold weather comes! You have had too many things wrong this year. How is your little garden doing? I am harvesting beans, cherry tomatoes, some yellow squash, lots of Swiss chard and a few chilli's for my husband. The egg plant is blooming beautifully but no fruits on it. The bell pepper plant got covered by the cherry tomato and so it is basically doing nothing. But it is fun to have a garden. If we had to eat from my garden though, we would starve!
I managed to walk around my block 3 times last nite before it got too dark. also put my shoes on to do it. really reminds me WHY i have dislike of sandals(especially the thongie kind i was wearing. just a strip of fabric over front of sole.) too many times were i was almost tripping over them. shoes do feel not as comfie on feet while at desk but not too bad. toe is tender, but gad so much much better than it was.
I think what bothers me about the numbers is knowing the advair is a steroid type of inhaler does affect numbers and the med for the shoulder also was. so far most of the times the numbers are up i really cannot connect it to any food i should have or should not have eaten. it DOES seem like it is really being affected by the infection, meds and stress!! I do believe and trust that getting back into exercising will help on all those fronts!! lowering stress big time, probably helping the asthma to stop making me cough so much and plain and simply help resist infections etc. i think that the way the numbers are not really connecting to exactly when i am or what i am eating is a red flag that its from insulin resistance so that makes the exercise even more critical.
i do find it funny in one way how MUCH i really trust and credit exercise for helping so many different challenges. i am very thankful that the idea of exercise is not that distasteful to me, which does help. so it should not be that big a struggle to get back to it. i was avoiding walking with the sore foot in large part cuz those sandals made me so nervous(since they were making me "trippy!!") and i will be danged if i want to hurt ANY body prat that will cause more delays getting back to it!!
Sadly my garden has mostly ended up not getting potted! I will say when I went to sister's that the plants I shared with her are really doing GREAT!!
At least I get to the farmers market and get some really good stuff there. Even found some blueberries at the one strawberry booth. these taste very much like the ones from the blueberry people that i keep getting there too late for!
Don't know what kind of eggplant you have, but it totally amazes me the variety of those at the farmers market. even saw some little ones, they really looked almost like a heirloom tomato with that sorta wavy skin and were almost a creamy color. thankfuly i asked becuase it was hard to tell if they were just really small heirloom tomatoes or my 2nd guess..eggplant. I swear they must have close to 10 very different types of it at various stalls.
am hoping things settle down for sister, and she doesnt get it in her head to move in with me. i confess my house is maybe around 700-800 square feet so really about big enough for me and a doxie!! i am hoping that if she gets the idea to move in it will quickly be dropped because she has too much stuff to put in my house even if we only had narrow paths in each room to walk in. i dont see her getting rid of that much stuff that fast!
