to our dear dentist's today. He is a diabetic too; the fellow is very solicitous in his care of my teeth. With all of the things we have to think about, our teeth can go too. Please do not forget yours.
My visit to my physician on Monday turned out better than I thought that it would. My Alc was 5.5! I really thought that I had made a mess of my numbers. A reading of 391 after eating a 'sugar free' dessert that my DSIL had made shook me to my core. When I talked to her about it, (delicately, to be sure) she said that the whipped topping was 'regular', but she didn't think that would make a difference. Beware friends, other people mean to take care of us, but they just do not understand that 'just a little sugar' can be far too much for us.

I do test when I feel off-kilter some way or another.

2sweet02,
Congratulations on your wonderful A1C. It is amazing that you had that result with your awful high but that was only there for a matter of hours, not days.
One of the things that non-diabetics don't realize is that it is the carbs regardless of where they come from that raise our blood sugar. She may of thought to leave out the sugar itself but what about the other ingredients in the recipe. People without diabetes just don't understand this.
I am glad that you are doing so well.

I think in addition to people thinking its ONLY the sugar that is a problem they also do NOT realize how MANY foods have added or even start out with a lot of sugar. Just because something does NOT taste really sweet does not mean there is no or very little sugar in it!!
Aside from the sugar, the starchy foods really have the same effect although possibly over a little different time frame. So someone might never even consider bringing a person candy but will turn around and bring something super starchy and not realize its really the same problem!!
