Hi I'm Heather. I was just diagnosed with diabetes last week. When I was pregnant with my 2nd daugther (2 yrs ago) I had gestational diabetes but it seemed to go away after I had the baby. Ive been having lots of issues going on so I began testing my blood sugar again and then finally went to the doc. Not only did she give me alist of foods to avoid but she put me on glucophage. I'm really hoping to find a lot of support here.
Thanks!

Hi Heather and welcome to the board!
Hi Heather,
Welcome to the board. You have come to the right place for support and hopefully answers to your questions.
Please make sure that you start on a small dose of metformin and that you take it with food in your tummy. It will take you about two weeks to become used to the metformin. So hang in there as the side effects will magically, for most people, go away.
Please ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian for meal planning help, There really aren't that many foods which are forbotten for diabetics anymore. It is normally more the size of the portion that is the problem. Plus every diabetic reacts to foods differently so you will need to test your blood sugar to see how a certain food effects your numbers. Many insurances pay for diabetic education so ask if this is available to you.
I look forward to seeing you around here. We are here to help in anyway that we can.
Hi Heather,
I suggest taking some ginger root to help with the tummy troubles from the glucophage...it helps immensely.
